Noteworthy Television This Week: Cable is the Best Bet

A look at some noteworthy programs this week:

Mystery: Foyle’s War: Invasion (Sunday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13, Tuesday, 9:00 p.m., WLIW 21) The fourth series of this great British World War II period mystery drama makes its way to this side of the pond. The first of four episodes has Detective Foyle and his team investigation a murder on an American base.

The 4400 (Sunday, 9:00 p.m., USA) This sci-fi series about people who were abducted by humans of the future and brought back returns for its fourth season.

Entourage (Sunday, 10:00 p.m., HBO) Another show back for its fourth season, this time around producing is given a try.

Meadowlands (Sunday, 10:00 p.m., Showtime) Don’t let the title fool you since this show has absolutely nothing to do with New Jersey. This show is a British import about a family in witness protection that finds itself in a less then idyllic town.

Age of Love (Monday, 9:00 p.m., WNBC 4) Yet another cheap summer fakeality dating show. This one’s hook is a thirty something guy has to choose between younger and older women. You have been warned.

The Closer (Monday, 9:00 p.m., TNT) Kyra Sedgwick is back for another season playing a LAPD chief who has a talent for getting confessions out of suspects.

Heartland (Monday, 9:00 p.m., TNT) Treat Williams plays a transplant surgeon in this new medical drama.

Frontline: Endgame (Tuesday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) A look at the military and political mistakes that lead to the Iraq civil war.

AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Al Pacino (Tuesday, 9:00 p.m., USA) The American Film Institute pays tribute of Al Pacino.

P.O.V.: Rain in a Dry Land (Tuesday, 10:00 p.m., WNET 13) The story of Somali refugees who have been relocated to the United States and the struggles they face in this country.

AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movies: 10th Anniversary Edition (Wednesday, 8:00 p.m., WCBS 2) Yet another film countdown show, this time adding some more recent movies into the fray.

Great Performances: Dance In America: Dancing in the Light: Six Historic Works by African American Choreographers (Wednesday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) A revisit to a 2001 program this time around adding anew or extending the dance sequences that were or were not in the original.

Stargate SG-1 (Friday, 8:00 p.m., Sci-Fi) After ten seasons, this show based on the 1994 film Stargate, finally concludes. Fun fact: it is the longest running science fiction series on North American television.

Stan Lee's Harpies (Saturday, 9:00 p.m., Sci-Fi) From the mind of Spiderman creator Stan Lee comes this made for basic cable television move about a guard at the Museum of Natural History who gets transported back in time to the Dark Ages thanks to a chalice which he has to now find to return home while fighting monsters.
