Last Night's Action: Eight Is Great

  • Yankees 7 Arizona 2: It took 60-something games, but the Yankees are finally playing like everyone thought they would from the beginning. A punishing lineup and solid starting pitching have finally shown up at the same time and the result is an eight-game winning streak.

Wednesday, it was Mike Mussina’s turn on the mound and he provided his best game of the year. Moose threw over 100 pitches and made it into the eighth, striking out seven and walking none. While Mussina kept the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard, Alex Rodriguez was continuing his amazing season. A-Rod belted his 25th home run of the year and he wasn’t alone in the power department as Posada and Matsui also went deep.

Meanwhile, off the field, Bud Selig is reportedly going to suspend Jason Giambi if he doesn’t cooperate with the Mitchell investigation. While it is nice that baseball is willing to finally investigate steroids, is punishing the only guy who has been remotely honest about things, if he doesn’t want to name names, the right way to proceed?

  • Dodgers 9 Mets 1: With a sweep at the hands of the Dodgers, the Mets have lost five straight. They return to New York having lost five of six on this road trip and ten of twelve in June.

funny, the Mets fans aren't complaining anymore about not getting top-billing on the Gothamist sports report.

Problem before was that Yanks were getting top billing on days when Yanks lost and Mets won. Why can't Gothamist just have the winning team have the top billing on such days and rotate when both teams lost/won.
