- Hundreds of people - and counting - want enhanced F and V service in Brooklyn. You can sign a petition that asks for the "restoration of express service on the F line to Brooklyn and extension of the V line for local service to Brooklyn." The petition is inspired by a plan suggested back in 2003 to improve Brooklyn transit options.
- While it's not surprising to hear that the MTA has fallen behind schedule with a project, it's slightly distressing to hear that the project has to do with counter-terrorism work. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has found that only two out of eight projects had been completed by the end of 2006. The MTA has been trying to "harden" various locations, from tunnels to stations, by installing surveillance cameras and improving other safety features, for the past few years. Still, DiNapoli said that the MTA is "incrementally" safer. Whoop-de-doo.
- The MTA came to an agreement on a new contract with Metro-North track workers. How long has the MTA been negotiating with Local 808? About four years. The deal includes a pay raise to make their pay comparable to LIRR track workers, according to the Daily News.
- And the MTA selected another 21 acts for its Music Under New York program. We've listed them after the jump, and you can see video of some of the auditions here.

From the MTA press release announcing this year's Music Under New York selections:
During the auditions, approximately 70 acts performed in front of a live panel of judges, consisting of musicians, performing arts professionals, MTA and NYCT transit representatives, and others. "Petition for More F in Brooklyn"
...
Ok, that's just too easy to twist around...
;)
As far as terrorism safety goes, rather than cameras the MTA needs to focus on retrofitting EVERY station for easy and quick egress.
What scares me the most is the thought of a panicked crowd rushing for "iron maiden" exits that only let 1 people out at a time. One emergency exit a station isn't enough. Security cameras are way overrated. They don't do much, save maybe ID people after the fact. But it doesn't really prevent anything. Cops in the stations, more station attendants and better exits are what the MTA needs. But that's not sexy I guess.
I love the F. Best subway in NYC. Also I thought it was super frequent but I guess not. The G on the other hand...
It's funny that this comes up today since the F train was completely off-schedule and behind this morning. I love leaving for work early and getting there late.
Apparently it had something to do with "slowness caused by construction"?
Getting the V in Brooklyn would be great. And while we're wishing for things that will never happen, Let's get the G train extended.
Really, it would be great. I signed the petition. But it's not going to happen. The MTA is too strapped for cash as it is (be that because of bookkeeping or actual need).
Won't happen for a long time. F service is going to get very loopy over the next year, as the MTA is finally going to be overhauling the viaduct that it runs on between Carroll St and 4th Ave. All that 'extra capacity' in the express tracks is about to disappear for a few years as all the steelwork is redone.
On the flipside, the G train WILL be extended during this period - as the tracks on 4th Ave will no longer be available to turn the trains.
I hope they don't improve service on the F line. The last thing I need are a bunch of hipsters moving into my quiet neighborhood, opening bars & driving the prices up.
Props to Break of Reality, an awesome band (I own 2 of their cds), for being accepted into the MUNY.
I have never had problems with the F. If we want to improve subway service in Brooklyn, I think what we need is more frequent R service in Bay Ridge!!
I do hope they give a more frequent service for N train. That train is always very crowded. If it's a little bit more frequent, that would probably reduce the crowd a little.
