Last night, the Gothamist Newsmap mentioned there was some sort of police activity at 151 Second Avenue. It turns out that the activity was related to a disturbance above Ryan's Irish Pub: The Daily News reports a man had been throwing dishes, bottles and mugs from the second floor.
Though the incident lasted a minute or two and no one was hurt, a lot of force was used: Not only did police try to find the man in his apartment, they shut down Second Avenue between 9th and 14th Streets "as they used helicopters to search." And a cop "may have accidentally discharged his gun during the initial response." Ah, the police enacting the broken windows approach to fighting crime!
The dish thrower was not found, but the building's manager says he spoke to the man earlier and the man had agreed to stop illegally subletting the apartment and said he would move out. Ah, nw we get it: Instead of taking his dishware with him, he just decided to throw it away!

Will SOMEONE PLEASE edit /re-read and correct the grammar/spelling on these entries? Between this and the Soprano's article, I'm ready to slit my wrists. Show some professionalism.

From Jen Chung:
Everyone: Thanks for pointing out the typos.
We have tried to find people to copy edit the site and have actually had people copy edit for us at various times. But it's not an easy task: Who wants to start copy editing posts at 7:30AM?
We're truly trying to work towards having posts checked more and more before publishing. But sometimes, and yes, I'll admit it happens with my posts a lot because I happen to post a lot, my posts will go up with mistakes. Believe me, I would love to catch all the mistakes before they go up so I didn't make mistakes that rile everyone up so much to post comments like these. We're trying to get better each and every day, but I cannot promise that we'll ever be perfect.
Who cares, its a blog, not a contract. A few basic typos here or there is no reflection on the quality of the site.
I suspect the advertisers might feel differently. If you're getting paid, you should be trying harder.
even though it drives me nuts, i love gothamist and will of course be a faithful reader/fan. thanks jen.
that damn chopper was circling my building for at least an hour. who would have thought it was for some bozo dish thrower. i wonder how much the fuel cost was to run that chopper for all of that time?
ahh, it feels good to know that nearly 40% of my hard earned NYC dollars go to taxes.
Cops are out there closing streets and shooting guns over a few broken plates, but who gives a shit about that when there's a typo to discuss!
You're still OK in my book Jen. Your heart's always in the right place. that's the gist I get from many of your posts.
