Last Night's Action: Captain Clutch Delivers Again

  • Yankees 5 Pirates 4 (10 innings): Derek Jeter always seems to come through in the clutch and Friday night was no different, even if the way he did so wasn’t that impressive. With the bases loaded and one out, Jeter hit a little dribbler between first and second. Needing to get the out at home or turn a double play, the Pirates’ second baseman tried to barehand the ball and couldn’t make the play.

The win marks the first time this year that the Yankees have won four consecutive games and brings them three games below .500. And, Roger Clemens makes his return to the Yankees this afternoon. Are things changing for the better in the Bronx?

  • Mets 3 Tigers 0: Think back to 2006 and many thought this would be the World Series matchup when the Championship Series started. Based on Friday’s result, the Mets must be really upset that didn’t happen.

Jorge Sosa throttled the potent Detroit lineup and Carlos Delgado and David Wright hit homers to power New York. Billy Wagner nailed down the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

  • Detroit 67 New York 57:The Shock improved to 5-0 with their victory over the Liberty. It was the Liberty's first loss of the season.
