That didn't stop the Yankees, who used a Bobby Abreu double to take the lead for good in the eighth. Thinks got dicey with Kyle Farnsworth's appearance in the bottom of the inning, but an Alex Rodriguez grand slam in the ninth put the game out of reach. As Abreu has performed better, so have the Yankees, who have won three straight and two straight series. State pitcher Andrew Brackman with the 30th overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft earlier in the day..
- Phillies 6, Mets 3: This series won't be in the old time capsule. Three times the Mets held leads, and three times the Mets lost. Speaking of threes, not even back-to-back-back homers could lift the Mets in the series finale. In three games, the Mets' bullpen lost a lead late twice -- and on Tuesday, the lead disappeared in the third inning. Closer Billy Wagner gave up a game-tying home run to Pat Burrell in the ninth inning, and the Phillies took the lead for good in the 10th inning. This series with the historically worst team (almost at the magic 10,000 loss milestone) in the history of baseball and perhaps all of professional sport anywhere in the world proves - baseball needs to shed some teams since the pitching is spread way too thin.
The Phillies, given their long history of sucking would be number two on my list of baseball teams to get rid of, but that is only because of Bud Selig who deserves to have the team he helped sleaze into being (by stealing the Seattle Pilots) removed from baseball. God, the world would probably have been a much better place if George W. Bush was baseball commish instead of Bud Selig.
