Last Night's Action: Mets Go Quiet

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg

  • Phillies 4, Mets 2: The two runs in the second were nice, but not scoring for nine innings after that didn't work out that well. The Mets gave back their 2-0 lead in the third inning and then exchanged baserunning mistakes and inept offense with Philadelphia until the 11th inning. Pedro Feliciano came in to pitch and did just what Manager Willie Randolph wanted from a lefty specialist: He gave up a home run to Chase Utley and a ringing single to Ryan Howard. Tom Glavine couldn't pick up his 296th career win, and the Phillies reached .500.
  • Yankees 7, White Sox 3: Tyler Clippard gave the Yankees five innings of one-run ball, and the Yankees offense decided to support its pitcher. Mark Buehrle got touched up again -- a four-run sixth didn't help his cause -- and the Yankees won after losing the opener in Chicago on Monday. With rookies starting so often for New York, a winning streak has proved elusive. If one ever arrives, it could vault the Yankees back to respectability. Until then, they'll have to settle for one-night triumphs.

  • Liberty 78, Fever 68: Nothing can stop the New York Liberty. Not even a date with the previously unbeaten Indiana Fever. Shooting 62 percent from the floor never hurt anyone either.

Something is wrong when the Mets loose to a double-A team.

Yeah Chase! Booyah!

But I do agree with Toby, something is wrong with the Mets if the Phils can beat them, especially in extra innings when any good Phanatic knows they are especially apt at blowing the game.

So it takes a Met loss to have the team make the top headline in sports? Gimme a break. They could streak for 20 games, and if A-Rod breaks it off with his tranny wife the Mets might even be placed behind a winning Liberty game.
