Rain, Rain and More Rain

It only took three days into the hurricane season for New York to be affected by a tropical storm this year. The remnants of tropical storm Barry arrived yesterday afternoon and has dropped at least three inches of rain on Central Park since then. Barry's rainfall was warmly received in parts of Florida and Georgia, which have been suffering under a rainfall deficit this spring.

The intense rain has caused the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Warning. Significant flooding is occurring throughout the city and surrounding area.

The heavy rain should last until around noon. After an extended lunch, showers and thundershowers of a more scattered variety should start up again in mid-afternoon. We should see a few dry hours this evening through tomorrow morning. A cold front approaches tomorrow afternoon. That approach will kick off another round of showers and thunderstorms, some of the latter may be severe.

The cold front will sweep all this humidity away starting tomorrow evening. Wednesday and Thursday are looking sunny and seasonable, with highs in the mid-70s both days. The upcoming weekend is looking warm.
