Pencil This In

2007_06_arts_johnpike.jpgWe'd like to use this space to say that our thoughts are with the friends and family of John Pike (pictured). The 23-year old drummer of Syracuse band Ra Ra Riot was found dead yesterday in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.

Here are some things happening around town tonight...

FILM: The Staten Island Film Festival is coming up later this month. A preview to one of the films that will be screening there, When Broom Sticks Were King, will be shown tonight prior to another Jason Cusato film, York Street.

"York Street is a tale about a writer trying to find inspiration and most importantly, an idea. He meets loans sharks, con men and a mob boss along the way. Jason, a co-founder of Park Slope Films and an alumnus of the School of Visual Arts, He will be on hand for both screening for a Q & A."

NOTE: These guys take off for a 150 mile walking marathon around New York today, so if you see 'em around - hand them a towel to dry off. We'll be talking to them once they're done with their urban trek.

Not being picky, but the first link says that Ra Ra Riot is a NJ-based band, not Syracuse-based.

The first link is actually to the band's Myspace page, which says they are from Syracuse, NY.

Sorry, I meant the second link--news article.
