On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events

sheep.jpgJune 3: A Day A Whey (the Sequel!)
Join Saxelby Cheesemongers for a day trip to the Valley Shepherd Creamery in New Jersey to see a sheep dairy in action. Learn about the cheesemaking process from start to finish and end the day with a picnic on the farm. 11 am to 7 pm. Tickets are $75 and are available online.

June 4: Japanese Food Demonstration and Tasting
Head on over to the Brooklyn Kitchen for a free afternoon/evening of culinary demonstrations and nibbling on Japanese Tapas, sponsored by Kikuichi Knives and Bozu Restaurant. The store will also offer 20% off all Kikuichi knives in stock during the event. 4-8 PM. 616 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn.

June 4: What in the Sparkling Wine?
Bet you didn't know there's a sparkling wine from Virginia -- well, there is. Learn about sparklers from all over the world (including Virginia) while tasting cheeses selected to pair well with them. 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 and are available online. Murray's Cheese, 54 Bleecker Street.

June 6: Beard on Books - Gael Greene
The latest installment in the James Beard Foundation's ongoing book series featuring prominent authors in the world of food features Gael Greene, author of Insatiable: Tales from a Life of Delicious Excess. Illy caffè and Acqua Panna and S. Pellegrino waters will be served, and light refreshments will be provided by Suvir Saran of Devi restaurant. Guests are also welcome to bring a brown bag lunch. Book signing will follow reading and discussion. Beard on Books is free for students with a suggested donation of $20 for non-students. 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the James Beard House, 167 West 12 Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues).
