After Wednesday's blow-up with Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie O'Donnell made today's show her last day on The View. Originally, O'Donnell's exit was planned for June 20, but it seems like she wanted out early. Here are some statements via ABC News:
Brian Frons, the president of Disney-ABC's Daytime Television Group, said, "We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well."It's unclear if O'Donnell left because of the various fights or the firing of her head writer (fired because she defaced photographs of Elizabeth Hasselbeck).Barbara Walters, the show's creator and co-executive producer, said, "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at 'The View.' I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In her statement, O'Donnell said, "I'm extremely grateful. It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
And just when you thought it couldn't get weirder/surreal, O'Donnell offers up a montage of images set to a Cyndi Lauper song on her blog today.

Death to Elizabitch HISS BOO HISS.
I think Rosie was important as a voice of reason to get through to the midwestern housewives that watch The View and believe everything Bush says. Now it just looks like she's some loudmouth liberal who ran away.
Maybe its time for Barbara/ABC to pull the plug. She doesn't need this crap.
Rosie a voice of reason??? You are kidding me. Didn't she claim that fire doesn't melt steel?
watch the ratings tank
She left early to prepare for her new gig as the host of Price is Right.
I think it is sad that Rosie is leaving. I don't watch the View, but I do like Rosie and I watched all the videos on YouTube. I think Elizabeth is just as loud mouthed, I guess it depends on which side of the fence you stand.
The ratings will indeed tank. Viewer ship has been up between 17 and 20 percent with Rosie there.
Remember, Joy is still there, she is also a loud mouthed liberal :). Thank God.
I think Rosie was important as a voice of reason to get through to the midwestern housewives that watch The View and believe everything Bush says. Now it just looks like she's some loudmouth liberal who ran away.
I love how idiots like you manage to make everything about Bush and Midwesterners. The truth is that sometimes Rosie is right and sometimes she is wrong but she is always loud and talks over everyone else. And like most loudmouth liberals she is convinced she is always right and when she can't convince you of her point in less than 15 seconds she makes it personal. That's a big reason that liberal Hollywood has a big fat target on their back.
"liberal hollywood"?
isn't the repukes shining star an actor?
isn't their God an actor from Hollywood?
so long mid western fattie with giant ass who can't wipe her butt.
So, are you saying that rightwingers aren't convinced that they are right, too? Aren't you convinced that you're right? Sounds like it. Bravo!
(and if you're not a rightwinger, you sure sound like one.)
I don't give a shit about Rosie O'Donnell, but when they talked about the disgusting photographs from Abu Graib on The View, Elizabeth Hasselbeck said, "How else are you supposed to get these people to talk?" And nobody said anything to disagree.
That phrase is burned into my memory. Pure, ignorant evil.
I watched the video on Youtube, they are both idiots. It's a shame that Rosie is gone though because it would have been funny to see more fights. That stuff makes good television. It's too bad it didn't get physical. Rosie would have won in that department for sure. Who else thinks that would be awesome?!
Rosie forgot her place. She's like the dinner guest who starts a fight with her husband, on her cell phone at the dinner table. She ruined it for everyone. The show is called "The View" it is Barbara's show and Rosie thought she was going to "take over." I don't think Ms. Hasselbeck is a prize but Rosie got what she deserved. If you step into the ring don't be surprised when you get knocked out. The winner and heavyweight champion is "Elizabeth." She said I'm not "poor." Evidently, she's got cards up her sleeve that Rosey doesn't know about! And finally, Rosey doesn't have any grace. She does not know how to exit gracefully...leave them wanting more. Proving once again that you can't buy class. Ellen D is next!
Nobody wanted Star because Star did what again?? Rosey picked on Star, said nasty things to Star. Everyone took Rosey's side because of the black white issue. Everyone was blinded by the "white." Now can you see Rosey is NUTS! EVIL! UNPROFESSIONAL! Ignorant and classless!!! Well, anyway, I wish her well. "The Price is Right?" I doubt is. Lot's of Military moms and family watch that show.
she picked on Star because star was a complete idiot, kind of like someone who ironically shouts "NUTS! EVIL! UNPROFESSIONAL!" when trying to make a comment
I'm glad Rosie is gone. If anything she's done a great disservice to liberals -- all she's done is show conservatives how pig-headed (some) liberals can be. If anything, I think she's turned them off EVEN MORE than before.
ekskuse,
Uhm... So what's the point are you trying to make? That Hollywood is conservative?
#8 there is a reason why people say "midwesterners" and "Bush" in the same sentence. It's no accident. Of course it's a stereotype but you will find most Bushies residing in the flyover states.
#13 - why would Ellen be "next?" Because she's a lesbian? She's a very friendly and unassuming host with no political agenda.
I think the idea of a show that espouses women with differing views is great but I really think that Rosie set a tone that was judgemental and rude each time there was a view expressed that she disagreed with. While Rosie is entitled to her views, her body-type and lifestyle, she really showed just how thin skinned and vengeful she can be when she is running scared and facing unemployment.
She though nothing of dragging Elizabeth into her show ending drama and was suprised when she responded. It kind of makes Star seem classy.
I think it's pathetic that she quit. She calls Hasselbeck a coward, and then can't take the heat and quits. It makes her arguments weaker that she can't see her term out to defend them.
Don't get me wrong, Hasselbeck is a dumb little girl who gets to be on tv because she's opinionated and hot. Right-wingers love dumb people who are opinionated and hot. THat's what fox news is all about.
rosie is real
rosie is an "outside the box" kind of person on all levels
the world needs people like rosie
aren't we all bored with the cookie cutter types like Elisabeth H.?
EH is a martyr: "poor me, rosie is picking on me"
same same same
^ outside the box doesn't mean you automatically win arguments. Rosie is something we need more of, but add to her qualities non-quitter. Rosie is a quitter.
Oh Well, I don't watch the "View" Maybe because I'm at work . I see it this way, Rosie's got major issues and needs some serious "Me" time ! I understand the whole "Juicing for rating" It's the stuff that makes people watch . When you start picking fights with Ur Co-Anchors that's the beginning of the end in my mind .
Robin G,
"It's no accident. Of course it's a stereotype but you will find most Bushies residing in the flyover states."
Wait a sec... I thought left wingers were against stereotyping, profiling, and etc? Or is it only when it suits their political agenda?
debbie,
"EH is a martyr: "poor me, rosie is picking on me"
I haven't heard EH claim that Rosie is picking on her, but I did her Rosie whine that right wingers were picking on her and she demanded that EH defend her. A grown woman, with a big mouth on her demanding that someone else defend her? Lame.
