THEATER: The Second Stage Uptown Festival – which strives to present “daring new plays” in a part of town that seldom attracts the NYTW set – commenced this week with the world premiere of The Butcher of Baraboo, by Marisa Wegrzyn. (Myspace members can try befriending the 25 year old Chicagoan.) Her black comedy swirls around Valerie, a butcher in Baraboo, Wisconsin and is directed by two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey. Sounds like a hoot: “Her husband has gone missing and everyone suspects she played a hand, especially her nosy sister-in-law who just happens to be the town sheriff. Her daughter, a drug-pushing pharmacist, might know more than she lets on.” - John Del Signore
8pm // McGinn-Cazale Theatre [Broadway at 76th St] // Tickets cost $40
MUSIC: Brooklyn band Ladybug Transistor recently lost a member. They'll be playing tonight, however, at Bowery Ballroom with The Rosebuds. Come support them both, and if you can't make it - there's also a memorial show at Sound Fix coming up.
8pm // Bowery Ballroom [6 Delancey St] // $15, Tickets still on sale
COMEDY: It's the season finale of comedy/variety extravaganza "Fresh Meat with Catie Lazarus". In the second half, the stars confess their worst experiences in the biz, first jokes and there's a Q and A with the audience."
