I know it is common in the city for people to say "wait on line" or cashiers to bark "next on line" (rather than "in line")...but I think it sounds wrong. It is also the "on line" crowd that says..."Manha'an", which also makes me cringe.

Newsflash: Don't show up at a city agency two hours before closing time! I was on line for my marriage license at 8:00am (before I went to work) and also managed to get married the next day, have a celebratory breakfast nearby, and still make it to work by 11:00am, just by showing up early.
