New Amsterdam is the story of a Dutch soldier given immortality by a Native American girl he saves and is now a NYPD homicide detective. Wow. There's a recent Pete Hamill novel called Forever about a pre-Revolution colonist given immortality by a slave he rescues, provided he remains in Manhattan. Seems a mite similar...
