Its astonishing how little under 30 somethings know about what really happened in the 60's. If you imagine that this, or any marketed retro hype about the 60's is true, you probably believe that things are better now than they were then. They are not. Not economically, not culturally, not socially. I am not nostalgic for the 60's, but the dumbed down, gullible status quo of our times is nothing short of tragic. Communism? Revolution? Acid casualties? Hippies? Ha Ha Houdini! Drop out, tune in, turn on might not be a bad idea in these bleak times.

How does that ben folds song about hippies go? "you once wanted revolution, now you're the institution. How does it feel to be the man" It is, however, amusing that the refusal to make peace with communism wore them down until they collapsed under their own illogic. An interesting documentary on world travel interviewed passerbys in Moscow's Red Square shortly after the fall of communism. When asked about Vietnam two Russians answered bluntly "you were right to fight us, we were trying to take over the world."
