First of all, Fulton Mall is not a "Strip Mall" . So there's no need to add "Ethnic" stores to the mix . You have the Atlantic Center for that, Secondly, Closing the stores @ say [8]pm would be better . As far as the police presence is concerned, They do patrol the area, Just because you don't see them doesn't mean there not their . Continually, With regards to the selection of stores "AD", Ur correct they do cater too minorities . Why ? Because that's where the money is and all the shop owners know it ! They know that those for whom patronize there shops are looking for bargains not overpriced shit that they can't afford ! If you like the shops of either Ur hometown, OR if Ur from the hood but shop in the city then go too the city for Ur fix ! I take offense to the claim that Fulton Mall is "Ghetto" . That is the stupidest thing I've read thus far this week ! Why is it "Ghetto" ? Because a bunch Black, & Brown folks shop their ! Get Ur facts in order "AD" before posting comments like this . Fulton Mall has always been a caterer of Bargains for all whom search for them . Just because there aren't five, OR six "Starbucks" doesn't make the area low class . Remember this you "Hipsters"/Out-of-towners/"Well-offers, Decided too move into this "Ghetto" so stop "Hating" and learn to deal with it ! Because you all may be able to force the poor folk out of a neighborhood over time by overpaying the Landlords, but you will never be able to suppress the spending power minorities possess !

Wasnt the place rebuilt like 15 years ago (1980s theme it has right now)? Also, every store closes at 6PM like there will be a riot. NOTHING IS OPEN. Its just shows how ghetto the place is. Every white person knows to never goto Fulton since none of the stores are targeted for any races except blacks, so if you rebuild it, you wont suddenly change anything. You will still have the horrible store selection, and unless your planning to do a mass eviction/"eminent domain" to change the make up of the stores, changing the street isnt going to do shit. Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo are 6 blocks away, why a white person would shop on Fulton except for price is beyond me.

All Fulton needs is some cops, and some way to convince store owners to be open past 6PM, not millions in new sidewalks. This project is just another example of govt graft.

I live on Flatbush Avenue Extension right neat the Manhattan Bridge. It certainly could use some work. I guess maybe once they're done with the construction on the bridge itself.

I think it needs more stores targeted to ethnic minorities.

While I agree that some changes are necessary, Fulton Mall needs a "Touch-up" here and there . Widen the street, Fix the drainage problem things of that nature . As far as the types of businesses there, Leave that alone ! This is not Herald Sq., It's downtown Brooklyn ! There's a certain charm if you will about it . If Bloomberg's serious about fixing the mall then work on extending it . It makes no sense to have two Malls within short walking distance of another . Right now "Fulton Mall" consists of all the stores along Fulton Street between Flatbush Ext., & Boerum/Adams . What about the stores on Livingston & Willoughby Streets ? They need to be incorporated into the mall . A real directory would be a nice thing as well .

this place is a shithole. what we need is a hurricane katrina right in downtown brooklyn, so it will wash all those dirty blacks away. then ratner can come in and build a nice, gleaming tower as a testament to white power!

You know, I live right by Fulton Mall. It wouldn't even be that bad if they just took a fraction of that 18 mill to clean up all the litter that is constantly floating around and maybe plant a few trees.

Although I wouldn't mind some businesses besides Juniors that stay open late at night. Fulton Mall turns into a creepy ghostown after the sun sets, which is a shame because it seems like a waste of a perfectly good public square.
