Last Night's Action: Can't Get Worse? Think Again

  • Mets 10, Yankees 7: Nothing comes easy for the 2007 Yankees. For the second time this season, one of their starters left the game with an injury without getting an out. This time, Darrell Rasner got hit on the finger -- he later learned it was fractured -- and gave way to Mike Myers, who before morphing into a long reliever this situation made his living as a situational left-hander. The Yankees haven't had any luck, but they haven't helped themselves. Johnny Damon helped one of two David Wright homers over the wall. Robinson Cano made three errors and another misplay that should have counted as one as the Yankees dropped their third straight game. With Tyler Clippard set to make his Major League debut Sunday night, the Yankees are staring a sweep in the face. Things have gone so poorly for the Yankees this season that even the Mets and their validation-seeking fans can't take unreserved glee in their team's wearing out the usually dominant rivals. Boston split its double-header with Atlanta, leaving the Yankees 10 1/2 games behind the Red Sox and the Mets three games ahead of the Braves.

  • Red Bulls 4, Crew 0: Juan Pablo Angel, a former English Premier League player led the Red Bulls with a goal and two assists. Some players -- like Claudio Reyna -- missed the game with injuries, but another, Jozy Altidore, missed it for his senior prom.

Validation-seeking fans?

Jesus, man, can you at least try to be somewhat impartial?

It's as if the Mets didn't win; the Yankees lost.

Dude. Really. It sucks.

I'm a Mets fan and I know that this city loves the Yankees when they're playing well and breaks down into a history lesson when they aren't, but enough already. For the last two years the Mets have been lightyears ahead of the Yankees as far as the quality of their on-field play.

We don't need "validation." Our team does it in the field.

Damn right our TEAM does it on the field. And they're fun to watch. And yesterday was quiet a statement of how the two teams are playing. The Mets turn 3 double plays, and the Yankees make three errors. The Mets steal 5 bases, the Yankees none. The Mets are in first place by 2.5 games, while the Yankees are out by 10.5.
This is Mets town again. "Baseball like it oughta be."

this all goes to show that the yankees got so far up their own asses they forgot how to play baseball.

lol@ a 200 million dollar non producing team.

people should blame steinbrenner for sucking the heart and soul out of the yankees and turning it into a giant advertising firm.

Both the Yankees and Mets 97 games last year, so to say the mets have been light years ahead of the yankees for two years is wrong. That said, the yankees have been shit this year.

Anyway, it's all about the Red Bulls!

It's the usual, Yankee fans crying because their team loses. Just shows that Yankee fans are biggest babies in all of sports.

MGP: If you think play on the field is indicated only by record, you're wrong and you know it. The Mets were much better than the Yankees last year. Period.

The Yankees have been shit this year. This game, for example, if you believe Tom, was lost by the Yankees, not won by the Mets.

I guess it'll be time for a Yankees history lesson soon seeing as the fans are awfully quiet now that they're 5 games under .500.
