I went to Townsend Harris. Admission is based on grades and regents scores as opposed to single test scores (like at specialized high schools) or gender/race/ethnicity, so there's no arguable grounds for lawsuits (hypothetically). It's a nice school, and a sizeable percentage of my graduating class was non-caucasian. Tons of work, though... made college feel like a breeze.

My Dad was a graduate of the original Townsend Harris in the old Baruch College building on 23rd St. It was an all boy school, and predominantly Jewish.

At the time any graduate was guaranteed admission to City College, then completely free. During the Depression, quite a big deal.

The city closed the original high school in 1941, and it's old boy association is still active, but the ranks are quite thin now.

Just goes to show you, there is nothing wrong with NYC public schools. Granted I'll still say the suburban kids have a slight edge in preparing their kids for college. I'm talking about NJ public schools vs. NYC. Have no experience on NYC suburbs.
100 percent graduation rate is quite an accomplishment.

86% of the student body was split evenly between Asian and white students, with the other 14% also split about evenly between black and Hispanic students.

I'm surprised there haven't been lawsuits over this.
