Most Refreshing Summer Drink

fw200506_lemonminttea.jpgWe used to think lemonade was the best drink for cooling off in the summertime. Our grandmother swore by barley water. But on a recent humid day a friend mixed passionfruit puree with strawberry puree, threw in a bit of ice and water, and there it was! The most refreshing drink we've ever had. We tried to stop at three glasses; it didn't work. We managed to stretch out the fourth, and we've been thinking about it ever since.

We've found some other summer refreshers around the city that we love -- the aqua frescas at Pampano Tacqueria (we're partial to the watermelon, when they have it), and the herbal teas at the Union Square greenmarket. If you're inclined to make your own, Food and Wine has a slideshow with 23 recipes and tantalizing pictures.

What's your favorite cool drink in the summertime?

a good IPA is hard to beat on a warm summer day.

Any cold beer is my perfect drink on a hot day.

My family favorite growing up was cactus juice.

I could drown from all the iced tea I drink on a hot day.

This post makes me sad. Maybe because it's so useless.

So many to choose from! A Hoegarden always satisfies. A frozen Zombie, from the Zombie Hut in Carroll Gardens would also be a good place to start. A Pimms is a good choice, as is a well made mojito or mint julep.

But the ultimate summer drink called a sprizz. It's Venetian, and consists of an Italian drink called Aperol (a bitter orange liqueur) mixed about 3/1 with proseco. Now that's satisfying.

A Morir SoƱado always hits the spot.

Aguas Frescas. With a G (and that is how it is pluralized as well).

Keep up the good work. :)
