And it was my understanding that no closeups were necessary during the dual diner seen in "Heat", because Mann filmed it with two separate cameras in one continuous take as a running conversation between Pacino and Deniro.

There were plenty of rumors that they didn't work together much on Heat because neither actor wanted to be present when the other was having his close up. I guess they had better things to be doing, in Deniro's case that would be ruining Tribeca.
