May 20: San Loco Turns 20
We love a good birthday party, especially when it means cheap tacos. To celebrate their 20th year in business, San Loco will be offering beef, bean or rice hard tacos topped with cheddar, lettuce and sauce for a mere 20 cents at all four of their locations. The only downside -- there's a five-taco limit. We think you'll survive. From 11 a.m. "until supplies last."
May 22: The Cuisine of Queens & Beyond
Forty-seven vendors, including restaurants, bakeries, gourmet shops, and wine and beer purveyors, will be participating in this tasting event, featuring some of the best Queens has to offer. The boys at Grub Street have highlighted some of their favorites -- be sure to check them out. Also, Chef Marcus Samuelsson will be traveling out of Manhattan to sign copies of his cookbook, The Soul of a New Cuisine: A Discovery of the Foods and Flavors of Africa. Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd between Crescent and 27th Sts, Astoria, Queens. 6–9pm. For more info or to purchase tickets, visit dishdujourmagazine.com or call 718-777-7918. Advance $50, at the door $60.
May 23: Dine Around Downtown
Tribeca, Queens, and Lower Manhattan all in a week?!? Imagine how many restaurants that is! This is the ninth annual Dine Around Downtown, a tasting event featuring restaurants from Lower Manhattan, including Bouley, Brasserie Les Halles, and newcomer Gold St. Admission to the event is free, and tastes may be purchased for $3 to $6 per tasting. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chase Manhattan Plaza, located between Nassau & William streets and Liberty & Pine streets. The rain date is Thursday, May 24.

RE: The tast of tribeca. Check it ... $40 advance, and $45 at the door. Try and get the advanced tickets, add on $1.25 handling fee, $4.75 service fee (what the difference between handling and service fees are, i have no idea), and the advance 'discount' of $40 becomes $46. Stupid.
