This week Bruni goes to Anthos, Michael Psilakis and Donatella Arpaia's new Greek restaurant, and awards the restaurant two stars. "Much of the cooking is inspired," he says, "and much of it is excellent." Bruni finds the décor dreary, and the pacing of the meal a bit off, but overall thinks the restaurant is on its way to good places (and more stars in future).
Also in the Times, Peter Meehan visits Super Taco, the truck at 96th and Broadway, for $25 and Under. The truck appears each weeknight at 6pm and sets up shop. While the trucks offerings "may not be cause for a pilgrimage," says Meehan, the tacos are "tasty and cheap… and as anyone familiar with the taco landscape of the city knows, a good taco is hard to find."
In the NY Sun, Paul Adams goes to Tasca in the West Village for tapas. Says "its ideas seem to have outpaced their execution." Hates the ceviche and paella, finds the tapas itself passable but not worthy of raves. "Too often the inventiveness in the kitchen doesn't quite make up for the clumsiness on the plate," Adams says.
And Ryan Sutton stops by Perilla for Bloomberg News. The restaurant is helmed by Harold Dieterle, winner of the first season of Bravo's Top Chef, and the food "evokes the Asian-spiked fare DiSpirito served at the now-closed Union Pacific," says Sutton. Let’s hope this reality-TV chef fares better than Rocco did.
