Last Night's Action: Walk On Home

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg

  • Mets 5 Cubs 4: There are so many ways to lose a game, but probably none more humiliating than walking in the winning run. Michael Wuertz did that Monday night when he walked Carlos Delgado and the Mets completed a great comeback.

Tom Glavine wasn’t at his best and Chicago jumped out to a 4-0 lead. David Wright cut that in half with a home run that barely cleared the fence in right. In the sixth, the Mets tied the game off of a LoDuca double and an Easley sacrifice fly.

That set up the bottom of the ninth. The Cubs got the first two outs, but a single by Reyes and a stolen base put the winning run on second. After Endy Chavez walked on four pitches, Lou Pinella made the questionable decision, when you consider that his pitcher had completely lost the strike zone, to intentionally walk Carlos Beltran. Carlos Delgado drew the third walk of the inning and the Mets improved to 24-13.

  • Cleveland 87 Nets 85: New Jersey had their chances, but terrible fourth quarter shooting and Vince Carter losing the ball out of bounds in the final seconds sealed their fate. They will now head back to Cleveland for a do-or-die game on Wednesday.

Damn, Met fans are awful lippy nowadays. I didn't hear from them for the last five years. Now, they're EVERYWHERE! Yeah, we shoulda talked about what the Yankees did on their off day yesterday. Good point.

What did you do with your Red Sox hat? I hope you didn't throw it out. After all, you only bought it in 2004.

there is no news about the yankees because they had the day off yesterday. sheesh.

Hey, let's give credit where credit's due - Wuertz didn't give first base to Delgado, Delgado earned it. He hung in there for ten pitches and forced Wuertz to pitch to him. What a fantastic at-bat!

Of course, none of this would've happened at all if Reyes hadn't singled with two outs and then completely unnerved Wuertz on the basepaths. I was there for the game, and it was such a pleasure to see the Mets play the kind of baseball they did there in the bottom of the ninth.

wow i screwed up that sentence.

    Poor cubs...

I'll say it's really refreshing to have yankees news shoved down my throat anymore - they minute that team starts losing Yankees fans lose all interest in baseball.

    Go Mets!
