I got a chance to drive the hybrid taxi Ford donated to the city of chicago (where I work). It was a really sweet ride, but as soon as you hit 25-30 mph, the gas kicks in. I found that disappointing, but I guess that is better than nothing. One other note: you see that hideous yahoo! logo with a jungle motif on the side of the vehicle? Well, the one in chicago has a fat ford logo and kermit the frog on it, saying "See, it's easy to be green!" That was a little embarrassing, being a driving billboard and all...

Statistical point: The assertion "[N.Y.C.] produces 1% of all U.S. greenhouse gases" is almost meaningless without context, such as the fact that our portion of the population is 2.3%, & our portion of GDP is about 3.5%. Just sayin'.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a "planetarian" is defined as "1. A member of the professional staff of a planetarium" or "2. An inhabitant of a planet." So being a responsible inhabitant of a planet--in this case, Earth--could mean workking to reduce greenhouse gases. Of course, if Matt Dillon was referring to the primary definition, I'd say we all better start sending out the resumes.
