Rudy and Judi: A "Very New York Love Story"

2007_05_giulianirj.jpg

New York Magazine casts an eye on the unofficial First Couple of NYC, the Giulianis, with a cover story on all that's known about Judi. Lloyd Grove's article explains about this much:

  • Their meeting: Neither Rudy nor Judi will talk about exactly what happend, but apparently they met at a cigar bar on the Upper East Side and later went to a movie and dinner at Peter Luger's.
  • Rudy really loves her
  • She may or may not be a climber. Judi did fall for Rudy pre-September 11, but one of her ex's friends gives a pretty withering description: "She was a real opportunist, a real Becky Sharp character...I think she really desired to be sort of the Junior League type. She basically struck me as having an inflated, self-important view of herself.”
  • There's some question about how much Judi Giuliani did post-September 11; while Giuliani claimed she "coordinated the efforts at the Family Assistance Center on Pier 94," former Giuliani-era OEM director Jerry Hauer tells New York he organized it.
  • Rudy's presidential campaign staffers aren't too fond of her, but one longtime Giuliani aide was allegedly fired after saying, “Let me guess—you’re waiting for Princess, too.”
  • One of Judi's friends says Judi is upset that she might be a liability (and how her past as a medical supplies executive who stapled live dogs' stomachs during demos keeps percolating up) and the friend suggests, "I think Rudy’s the one that’s sabotaging her. He’s out of control. There’s too much hand-holding and kissing on the lips, behaving like a couple of 18-year-olds in their first love affair. She doesn’t have the political smarts, and I don’t think she expected any of this."

Naturally, a lot of the speculation about Judi is in the context of her as potential First Lady. Which is good copy now, but come on, how likely do you think it is for the Giulianis to move into the White House?

McCain is imploding on the Iraq issue plus other Bush fatigue like suporting the tax cuts. The GOP nomination is a two man race between Giuliani and Romney. All this talk about Rudy not playing in the heartland because of his divorces is unimportant. The fact that the primaries are bunched together early means a candidate can blow a few states and not suffer a snowball effect of bad press. Rudy can easily win the California and New York primaries on pro-choice alone. Democrats should worry if it is Hillary v. Rudy. Rudy takes away the abortion issue and leaves Hillary as the one who voted for the Iraq war. And last I heard she had no health care policy and was waiting for the "consensus" before formulating one.

Anyway, I would be perfectly happy with Giuliani in the White House if the Dems keep Congress. Should keep a lid on spending.

Typical New York phonies. They make me want to gag.

Hillary will scare him away just like in the 2000 Senate race.

I dont see it happening-NY politicians are irrelevant at best in the rest of the country and being from NYC can be a liability when you are running for national office now. And how many mayors-even mayors of megacities-get that far in a national office run? And his name is too ethnic...and he cant rally the conservative base which votes in primaries...so this is a non-starter. I wonder if he even believes deep down that he has a chance or he is just doing this for attention.

And wasn't she also sleeping with him (in Gracie Mansion) when he was still married to his second wife? One imagines the fact that they're both adulterers won't play very well in a presidential campaign.

I wonder how Mrs. Giuliani #3 will feel about "mutual respect and communication" when Rudy takes up with the future Mrs. Giuliani #4? Both of these people are ethically challenged.

And wasn't she also sleeping with him (in Gracie Mansion) when he was still married to his second wife? One imagines the fact that they're both adulterers won't play very well in a presidential campaign.

Considering Giuliani's poll numbers, who exactly won't it play well with in a Presidential campaign? Gothamist posters who already loathe him? I'm betting he isn't counting on their votes.

Rudy's a joke as a candidate - even he was surprised when his poll numbers were so high. Poor guy, now he's gone and given up his business activities and his campaign is quickly on it's way to flame-out. Rudy, McCain, Romney - none of them will be the nominee, it's wide open on the Rep side. I think eventually party leaders and elders are going to get together and draft someone to run, and that person will be nominee. Who that is, I have no idea.

She's a goddamn nurse that barely did anything else in her life besides seducing a Mayor. I mean give me a break, so she hooked the big fish now they are trying to make her out to be this talented executive and manager and that she did all that on9/11.

Bull, she's a nurse that got lucky and all this trying to make her out to be Guliani's equal in the accomplishments department is just staining Rudy.

Thanks to all of the other problems with his candidacy (incompatibility with the base, incredibly poor position of the GOP), Giuliani needs all the advantages he can get. It sure can't help him to be married to a bimbo.

If it's Hillary vs. Rudy, we get the interesting case of a betrayed wife facing off against an adulterous husband. How better to make her look sympathetic?

The other thing about Rudy is that it's more likely than not that his miscalibrated internal censor will hiccup & he'll say something shocking/ outlandish/ inappropriate/ stupid before year's end. I agree with timbnyc.

Love story? I guess it helps that she can only see him one eye at a time.

As for likelihood of his getting to the White House... not very. Quite honestly, it will bring me no pleasure to see the right wingnuts carve the 9/11 Whore up like one of Jack the Ripper's victims.

But to see him take on the Pope and the so-called Christians over the choice issue actually made me wish he wasn't a Republican and an asshole. For a day at least.

Jesus Christ, look at her necklace. It looks like a chain collar you put on a pitbull.

I guess shes quite a mutt. Rudy must keep her on a short leash.

"There’s too much hand-holding and kissing on the lips, behaving like a couple of 18-year-olds in their first love affair"

SINCE WHEN IS HAND HOLDING AND KISSING YOUR SPOUSE OFFENSIVE OR A CRIME?

One of Judi's 'friends' sounds a bit jealous to me...

I for one thing that Mrs. Giuliani is a hottie, and I'd love to shoot my hot baby batter all over her face while Rudy watches.

Guliani must think that explosives should be in place inside all tall buildings now - in case small fires should break out, so they can be brought down in a controlled fashion and not harm other surrounding buildings or neighborhoods?

I am personally pro-life, but I was glad to see Rudy actually stand up for his convictions. I would rather he say what he feels, even if I disagree with him on some things, that have him say what people want to hear.

Also, I don't think that him being an adulterer will make Hillary any more sympathetic. Does any honestly feel sympathy for her as a "betrayed wife?"

Oh come on. He's not standing by his convictions. He's just scared to death of being labeled a flip-flopper. He's already backpedaled about as much as a candidate can on any one issue.

Um, he is standing by his convictions. He has always been pro-choice. It isn't backpedaling to say that he thinks abortion is wrong, but that he thinks there should be a choice. Which is what he has been doing along, but the message has been muddled by the media and some messy delivery.

Um, NEWSFLASH, but he said in the very recent Republican debate that he would support the overturning of the Roe v Wade decision.

How exactly is that supporting freedom of choice?

Google: "Roe v Wade Giuliani remarks" and click the first link. Don't worry, it's Tucker Carlson's blog.

Either you're not paying attention or you are willfully ignoring the truth.

Why is the media ignoring the adultery? The liberal media wants a liberal in office, so the obvious strategy is ignore the subject, slant everything in Giuliani's favor and then trash him after he wins the GOP nomination.

Poor America, manipulated by the media.

Does America really care about the "Mormon issue" or is it the media's tactic to abolish the most formidable opponent?
