I have heard people from south of the border make that statement time and time again, yet no-one has been able to tell me how and why it is not a brandy. Brandy is a liquor distilled from fermented grapes. How is it not a brandy? I am still waiting for an intelligent answer to that question. I am beginning to think it's an emotional thing and not intellectual. Brandy is simply a spirit that is distilled from wine or grape juice and then matured in oak. Pisco, is exactly that - a spirit that is distilled from wine. My research comes from many different places and this fact on Pisco can be confirmed through the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, the Oxford companion and just about any credited authority on Pisco.
