This comment declaring that Pisco is not a brandy bothers me. I have heard people from south of the border make that statement time and time again, yet no-one has been able to tell me how and why it is not a brandy.

Brandy is a liquor distilled from fermented grapes. How is it not a brandy?

I am still waiting for an intelligent answer to that question. I am beginning to think it's an emotional thing and not intellectual.

I have mentioned this attitude to vintners and they laugh at the idea it's not a brandy.

Pisco sour is a solid cocktail. I've had it in Peru and Argentina and attempted it at home a few times. I've never heard of strawberries being used, but that certainly sounds nice!

Actually Paul, Pisco is a brandy. Brandy is simply a spirit that is distilled from wine or grape juice and then matured in oak. Pisco, is exactly that - a spirit that is distilled from wine. My research comes from many different places and this fact on Pisco can be confirmed through the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, the Oxford companion and just about any credited authority on Pisco. However, I appreciate you looking out for me.

also, pisco is not a brandy, just because it can be similar in nature to a brandy.

shows you what happens when you do your research on wikipedia.
