2010 Matchup: Bloomberg Vs. Spitzer?

2007_05_bloombergspitz.jpgWe love scurrilous political gossip! The NY Post's Fred Dicker says that Mayor Bloomberg wants to run for Governor in 2010! For some reason, Mayor Mike thinks that Albany might be his kind of town. A "senior" Republican source spills the beans:

"On two occasions in recent weeks, the mayor brought up the possibility of running for governor, of running against Spitzer in 2010.

"He's saying he can do for the state what he did for the city - bring professional management and not politics," said the Republican, who demanded anonymity.

"He's saying he knows that the presidency is most likely beyond his grasp.

"The bottom line is that he loves public service and doesn't want to leave it when his term as mayor is up."

Intriguing, and that sort of fits with the profile of the do-good-for-the-city mayor, who has claimed that he wants to dedicate his post-mayoral time to philanthropy. Of course, we love the other stuff the source said, "Mike Bloomberg doesn't like Spitzer. He thinks he's spoiled and an arrogant f--- who wants to run the City of New York...Bloomberg thinks that Spitzer is going to use his office to run for president down the road, and that that's what he's really focusing on." Hmm, one arrogant rich guy vs. another? That's a gubernatorial race we'd like to see.

Spitzer poked fun at his Steamroller image during the Legislative Correspondents Association Dinner over the weekend - check out this video. And he has just distributed a "statement of support" outlining, as the Sun puts it, "a legal and moral argument" to recognize same-sex marriages.

Update: Mayor Bloomberg told reporters the story about him running for Governor is "totally made up" and even said he called Spitzer to assure him he wasn't running. Damn you, Mayor B - why must you ruin the fun of scurrilous gossip? It's all we have!

What Bloomberg seems to be forgetting is that once he's out of office and the next guy takes over, a lot of the progress that's been made will be undone. Do you honestly think a Quinn, Weiner, or any other lifetime politician can keep the corporate mindset?

I have a feeling though Ray Kelly will be our next mayor.

Why the hell would Bloomberg want to be governor?
Does he have any idea how BORING Albany is?

Who cares how boring Albany is? It's not like Bloomberg goes clubbing on Tuesday nights. When you're a billionaire with a private plane you can go wherever you want on or bring people to you - like a girlfriend or private chef. Besides, the New York pays for a governor's office in Manhattan.

Albany is a huge step down from City Hall, seriously. You realize Bloomie would be spending most of his term taking back the City's new powers that he spent his two terms acquiring, leaving the City powerless to the State once more.

Also, as time goes on, it is pretty clean with Rudy is the pre-ordained Republican candidate, even though Ron Paul is clearly America's favorite.

Please understand this: Bloomberg is doing a "great job" because your gut feels it.

Why does your gut feel it? Because of Bloomberg's $100 million ad campaign.

Bloomberg's been branded. If you don't believe in the power of advertising, go walk into any agency on Madison avenue and marvel at the slick architecture, Aeron chairs and $1000 cell phones the ad guys enjoy. They get billions of dollars to pay for that stuff because the majority of people, whether or not they admit it, absorb advertising like a sponge.

Your gut absorbs advertising and can't be trusted. Vote with your mind, not with your gut.

Here's the real Bloomberg versus Spitzer:

Bloomberg on universal health insurance for children:

If you do research, you can see that Bloomberg is good at running the city's engine from a fiscal standpoint, but has little or no experience in social issues, and has arguably questionable policies regarding civil rights. (example: google.com/search?q=bloomberg+rnc+protests )

Despite this, some people really dig Bloomberg because he's great with the city's money. Call it crazy, but I prioritize rights, health and home over money, but that's just me.

We've got Google, use it. You've got your mind, use it.

Where do those "rights" and "health" come from? I bet you any poor black kid would take money rather than rights. First you get the money, then you get the right. Don't preach to the hungry kid that what he needs is rights. Give the boy a dollar first, you fuck. Stop being a liberal idealist.

Screw Albany and DC. Let's make him Mayor for life!

Ad Buster or should I call you Blike????

How does universal health insurance for children or affordable housing affect me? If you need either one then 1) you aren't old enough to vote 2) you won't care enough to vote.

I don't need either one so I would vote for whoever keeps me happy. Go Bloomberg.
