Last Night's Action: Eight Seconds
- Sabres 2 Rangers 1: The Rangers were eight seconds away from winning this game and taking a 3-2 lead in the series when Chris Drury netted the game-tying goal. Up until that point, the Rangers had played a great game, but anyone who watched the final minute of regulation has to wonder why Jaromir Jagr was on the ice?
After taking a 1-0 lead with just over three minutes left, the Rangers needed to play defensive hockey, so why did Jagr even hit the ice? Blair Betts and the fourth line had shutdown the Sabres all night, so why weren’t they used more at the end of the game?
The Rangers won’t have much time to ask questions as they face a do-or-die game six on Sunday afternoon.
- Nets 98 Raptors 97: Richard Jefferson hit the wining layup with under 10 seconds and then stole Toronto’s final effort to lead the Nets to a win. New Jersey will face Lebron James and the Cavaliers in round two.
- Mariners 15 Yankees 11: The pitching is putrid and Kei Igawa and Colter Bean combined to turn a 5-0 lead into a huge deficit. Mike Myers pitched four innings to save the bullpen from total abuse.
- Mets 5 Arizona 3: John Maine, April's NL pitcher of the month, improved to 5-0 on the season, pitching 6 innings of 1 run ball. 48 year-old Julio Franco hit his 173rd career home run in the game, and improved on his own record of being the oldest player to hit a home run in the majors.
