Last Night's Action: A Matter Of Inches

  • Rangers 2 Buffalo 1: It’s very hard to tell exactly what happened with under 20 seconds to go in this game. Henrik Lundqvist came out of his net and made a huge judgment error that led to a great opportunity for Buffalo. The Sabres slammed the puck towards the net and the replays appeared to show that it had crossed the goal line.

But, the on-ice officials had not called the play a goal and without conclusive evidence, the play had to stand as called. In the end, the Rangers probably got away with one, but they will take it and a 2-2 series back to Buffalo on Friday.

  • Toronto 98 Nets 96: New Jersey got blown out 33-13 to start the game, before staging a great comeback that fell just short. Game six will be Friday night.

  • Florida 5 Mets 2: Mike Pelfrey was awful in the first, but settled down. Unfortunately, it was too late, but Pelfrey’s rotation spot should be safe with El Duque on the DL.
  • Yankees 10 Rangers 1: At this point the Yankees may want to hire an exorcist. Phil “Franchise” Hughes was cruising along with a no-hitter in the seventh inning when he heard his hamstring “go pop”. Now he is out 4-6 weeks and the Yankees will have to find another starter. Paging Roger Clemens, are you in Mr. Clemens?

Hey... dont discount the fact that the Rangers played another excellent game... the pressure was on and they came through. Henrik was excellent, though did make some bizarre journeys outside of the crease... and then theres Malik, poor poor Marek Malik.

As a Buffalo fan, this alleged "No Goal" brings up horrid memories of a little puck that flew through a little hole in the net. .

However, I acknowledge that the Sabres also played horribly and shotty camera angles weren't the only thing that got me fired up last night.

wow, Trinkle - no matter what the Rangers do or how well they play, you just can't give them any credit, can you? Briere has more class - he even said he wasn't certain if it was a goal.

whatever - we're going back to buffalo to kill their Stanley Cup dreams once and for all.

Phil Hughes was great last night. I was so sad when he got hurt.

Remember when the Isles goal was called a "no goal"?

Well, I was just as angered by that botched call last night. There was enough in the one view, let alone needing to look at anything else, to call it "conclusive." Botched call, indeed!

being privy to some insider info on Hughes, I can tell you he will be out for 2 months. We wont see him pitch till July 1st at the earliest.

I hope his arm doesn't suffer.
SP, can you get me a job with the yankees? hehe.
