Is there any sort of official count on how many people were at the rally yesterday? I have seen, in various sources, the estimate increase from hundres to approximately a thousand to now five thousand.

i would say that it was easily in the thousands.

Send them all back where they came from.

I think they'd do more to assuage the fears of the anti-immigration people if they chose some date other than May Day to march. Immigration reform doesn't have to be linked to socialism.

I kind of miss the point of a non-voting segment demostrating for their non-existant rights. That's like me breakinginto someone back yard and then having a sit-in because I don't want to leave.

hey no amnesty for criminals,
YOU go back to where you came from, cause your people were NOT originally from here.
(unless of course you are native american. but if that was actually the case, i highly doubt you would be such a racist bastard.)

Actually it would be more like you breaking into someone's backyard to do lots of landscaping and creating a money generating small farm, while the owner stands there watching you work for decades. And after reaping most of the benefits, when you ask for a couple of apples and maybe a tent to sleep in, they tell you to beat it.

After you're gone, they allow other strangers to come into their backyard and tend to the money generating farm. When they start asking for a couple of apples and a tent too, they also get kicked out. This time, though, the owner actively seeks out strangers to keep tending to the farm.

Hey No Amnesty/Malik when does the Klan meeting start?
And Thompson, scary socialism is so turn of the century, 1900 that is.

Why is it that people who oppose ILLEGAL immigration are demonized as racists? Is it because we disagree with your opinion? There are LOTS of non-racist reasons to oppose ILLEGAL immigration.

let them stay....how else are you going to get your breakfast delivered to your office everyday?

So Jeff, you're saying that if we made the 12 million illegal immigrants into legal immigrants, you'd have no problem with them being here? Cause if that is true, it sounds like any easy fix.

9... exactly... the racism boogie man is always trotted out and a few wackos are given as examples, but the reality the majority of Americans are against any plan for amnesty-- which is exactly what the "comprehensive" codeword means. citizenship means something and there has to be limits. Look at every other coutnry around the world... hell look at even our neighbors to the north and south... they both have extremely restrictive policies.

My ancestors came here legally. My grandmother came here legally to get married the my legal resident grandfather and then went back to the old country to wait for her legal papers to come through. Then she crossed the ocean again. So shut the hell up. It's not about racism. The supreme irony in all of this is that the people that could most use the jobs that illegals steal are the poor minorities - the ones that the politicians pander to but never actually help.

addressing comments about ancestors coming here legally... this country is built on land that was stolen, via genocide and hundreds of broken treaties.

i'm not saying that we should all go back to where we came from, because that's sort of impractical, but any time you start drawing lines of what is legal movement and what is illegal movement, i think it's worth considering who was here before this land was colonized, what the colonization process looked like, even well into the birth of the USA as a nation - Trail of Tears, anybody?

Why wasn't the INS at this rally? They could've really made a huge bust. Half of these people must've been illegal.

I love how you try to put some kind of faux-racist spin on the issue for you lack real/cogent arguments to argue your point. It makes no difference if you're mexican or russian - the issue is that you're trespassing, not with the color of your skin.

And for the record, I am a LEGAL immigrant to this country (green card holder) and I support immigrantion... but there's a difference between immigrating to the country and jumping the fence. I pay taxes / health insurance / car insurance /whatever and I'm a net positive to the society. If you jump the fence to make $4/hr you're offseting your employer's cost onto me.

Yeah and your orange juice would cost four times as much not to mention all the other "made in the usa" items that are being pumped out by sweatshops using illegal immigrants. Illegals from south of the border have been coming to the US to do manual labor for well over a century. Placido, my friends.

It is NOT racist to expect people to follow the law of the land. My ancestors came here legally.

I can use some money right now, so I think I will protest until the govt makes bank robbery legal.

Who the F are these people to come to the US and expect to dictate what the laws here should be?
Some f'n nerve!

I don't like my friend's furniture but I don't go to his apt and rearrange everything uninvited.

These people are a sponge on law abiding, tax paying citizens. If these people weren't here, their jobs would be replaced by citizens making minimum wage or better. Sure, we would be paying more for goods & services but the overall economy would be better because we would have less people out of work and less tax money going to paying for illegals healthcare and other govt services.

Anyone who says "who else would take these jobs?" is a simplistic thinking idiot!

indeed. in light of this, some of these "laws" seem somewhat arbitrary.

it really all comes down to the companies employing them. don't blame people for actively seeking work. look at what some of these people risk for shittily-paying jobs that, yes, a lot of others don't really want to do.

I do think there's a legitimate concern with healthcare and other benefits (especially since a lot of my citizen friends aren't even insured). However, there are plenty of Americans leeching off the system to go around.

Also, I'm willing to bet the number of immigrants actually paying taxes cancels out the tax benefits received by the companies actually hiring them.

And anyway, what is "outsourcing," really??

And this differs from every single country on the face of this planet how, exactly? Everyone was conquered by someone else at some point in their history. The US is no special case, here.

If all you have is the race card to play when it comes to being pro-illegal immigration, you're bringing nothing to the table.

Things I've learned from watching the immigration rally slideshow:
1. The Blue Beetle was exercising his right to free speech
2. Ghandi was Mexican
3. Regardless of where they stand on the immigration issue, EVERYONE hates Sanjaya so they burned him in effigy

All these illegal immigrants remind me of the hard times so many of the ones who are trying to come here legally. And it seems so many of the ones who try doing so legally are the highly skilled ones that bring real intellect and educational backgrounds to our workforce. This country needs to do away with double-standards and legalize those we need (whether it's farming or banking) and persecute those who come here illegally.

funny there wasn't any of this racist immigration talk decades ago? immigrants were still coming here in droves, why now?
is it because of corporate greed? is it because of more hours worked for less pay? is it because the real worker hadn't had a raise in years?
I bet the complainers never missed a meal in their life or thought where the next meal will come or the fear of eviction.
Thank God for the Second Amendment,
Never Again, KKK,
Never Again.
Oh, thank God for inexpensive quality handguns from the Eastern Block and South America.
Makarov and Bersa.
