Early yesterday morning, the Q65 bus was hit by a Nissan Maxima whose driver ran a red light at Booth Memorial Avenue and 164th Street in Flushing. According to the MTA, the "Maxima was heading east on Booth Memorial Avenue and entered the intersection through a red light. The Maxima struck the left front corner of the bus." And from the looks of the pictures and TV footage, it was a crazy crash. The Maxima and bus ended up off the road, "knocking down a traffic signal pole."
The police arrested the Maxima's driver, 25-year-old David Cho, for drunk driving. Anthony DeRobertis, who lives near the intersection, told the NY Times, “It sounded like an explosion. I ran to my bay window. I saw the bus and car in the position they’re in right now.” DeRobertis went outside and tried to wake up Cho; Cho and his two passengers were all bleeding. A driver on the road told the Daily News, "I was two bus lengths behind the bus, and I saw the black vehicle coming out of nowhere. We had the green light. I couldn't estimate the car's speed, but it was not your average 30 [mph]."
There were fifteen people on the bus, including the driver; two passengers were treated on the scene and others were taken to hospitals with non-critical injuries. Cho and his two passengers were also treated at hospitals; one of the passengers, Tung Ma, is in critical condition at New York Hospital.

who is tung ma? was he in the car or the bus? this is a hard piece to understand.
As a person that always remarks that asians are the worst drivers, I'm glad that I can selectively harp on this example and totally disregard all the other car accidents that don't stem from asians. See I told you! Also, it's a bad year to be named Cho.
#1 Lisa:
In the second paragraph the two people in the (drunk driving) car were identitifed as David Cho and Anthony DeRobertis, it's pretty clear that Tung Ma was on the bus—it's not that hard to follow...
Next time try to suggest elements of the story: maybe the word "bus" could have been added, but it's the story is still pretty easy to follow.
...*one of the *bus* passengers, Tung Ma, is in critical condition at New York Hospital.*
Look at the (lack of) damage to the bus, it's barely dented. First rule of driving, momentum makes right.
#3 edEx:
Go find something productive to do. It's nice out.
Wow. Gothamist reports on an accident that didn't involve an SUV. What are the liberals going to do?
Actually the most car accidents comes from White Teenage drivers like the two 17 year olds who died 2 days ago in their BMW.
Those are the people who DIE Die in auto accidents and they died. They were not good friends of mine, but they died.
edEx you're a moron. it clearly says tung ma was the front passenger in the Maxima. Ma aint nothin but a punk gangster. serves him right, hittin up asian parties when you're 29? cmon.....
There is nothing wrong for a guy that's 29 to go to a party. What's up with the hatred? You got something against him? "calling him a punk gangster and serves him right"
Actually, he went to a Karaoke bar.
before people judge and stereotype hate, just know that today a pitcher from the St. louis cardinals died in a car crash.
I suppose he was a bad driver, too.
Wow ! His car is totaled, I've said this before and I'll continue to say it . Standards for obtaining a license to drive in this country need to change ! Granted, If this was this guy's first accident then OK fine he made a callous error in judgement and this was the result . If this guy has had problems like this in the past then his license needs to be revoked ! Their are far to many reckless drivers on the road today that shouldn't be there . The State knows about this and sits there with their hands on in the air ! Maybe what needs to happen here is a thirty day crackdown on these ass clowns . I would love to see that happen, Just thinking about how many bad drivers there are that would lose their right to drive in this country irritates the hell out of me !
drunk driving has nothing to do with his ethnicity. It has everything to do with him drinking and driving.
they should install those alcohol things to start up cars.
I grew up with Tung Wa Ma. He was the in the front passenger seat of the Nissan Maxima. The last I heard was that he is still in Coma and has yet waken up in the hospital.
dear #2 and #8, fuck you. someone is in critical condition, and all you fuckers do is make fun of the situation and hate. why don't you assholes get a life?
Too;"W" Don't be mad at us for voicing our opinion . It's not our fault that there in critical condition . This guy was driving recklessly, That's the point here ! Sure you feel sorry for the person that got hurt and all . To me that's where it ends! What about the poor people on that bus that got hurt ? What about the driver ? Do you think he/she was intent on getting into an incident . That's the problem with this country not enough is done until something horrific happens . Then everybody tends to pay attention and make comments . Stop playing the game of semantics and take a good look at what's going on before you formulate, and post your opinions .
I think ppl need to stop making childish remarks about drunk drivers and 29 year old adults who goes to parties. Instead, maybe reflect on your own life and those around you and let this be yet another tragic example of what happens when ppl drink and drive. Even if you don't drink and drive, I am sure you know someone who does. NO ONE should ever drink and drive....I don't care what you believe about how much alcohol you can have and still be able to drive....if you're drinking call a cab home or have someone pick you up. Don't make the decision to drink and drive and then spend the rest of your life regretting it. For readers who drink and drive, think of yourself lucky to still be able to read this post, but luck is not always on your side. For readers who think twice and pass the keys, or call a cab/friend - my applause to you for being smart and making the right decision.
#15 First of all I don't know which "guy" you're aiming at (driver or critical person) but the person that is in critical condition is not the driver and I don't think people should say things like #8, "Ma aint nothin but a punk gangster. serves him right, hittin up asian parties when you're 29?" So #14 was just trying to defend the critical person...Tung ma didn't know he was gonna get into a car accident. As for the bus driver he wasn't paying attention to his surrounding but just the traffic light..if he were to look at his surrounding then he would've saw the maxima speeding

all nite dancing you too are a moron. The cardinals pitcher was a chronic alcoholic who narrowly avoided getting killed in a car accident only THREE days before he was killed. How did he die? He was drunk and rammed a tow truck from behind. Bet you felt pretty stupid..
miss #18 you too need to get shit together. 164th and Booth memorial ave is a dangerous intersection, basically two uphill streets converge at the four way intersection and both streets can be driven very fast. The bus driver would have needed superhuman vision to see 90 DEGREES TO HIS SIDE! Hello?!?!?!?!?!
I just googled and found this page... Just wanted to say I saw Tung Wa again last night in the nursing home and he has still not waken up. It has already been a year.
I don't know how to respond to all these previous comments, but they just make me straight up SAD when I think of him lying in that bed.
