On The Mend - And In Track Pants - It's Corzine!

2007_04_corzinehosp2.jpg

2007_04_corzinehosp1.jpg NJ Governor Corzine showed the Associated Press that he's doing pretty well, sitting up (in red track pants, which is rather Fidel-ish) and reading his many get well cards. These are the first photographs of Corzine since he was in a car accident that left him critically injured and with 15 broken bones. Earlier this week, Corzine was still stuck in bed, but now he's able to leave bed and sit up. The cards look like they are from NJ school children; we hope that if they're making the cards during the school day, then there better be seat belts also drawn on them somewhere!

The AP's Mel Evans, who was the only member of the media to meet with Corzine, reported that the governor seemed upbeat, though his breathing was labored while speaking to his son. Corzine told him, "I'm the most blessed person who ever lived," and he might be right: While riding in the front passenger seat of a state trooper-driven SUV that was going 91 MPH, Corzine was not wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle crashed on the Garden State Parkway.

Not wearing a seat belt while in the front seat is against the law in NJ, and a NJ resident has filed a citizen complaint about the lack of gubernatorial seatbelt-wearing. Larry Angel wants Corzine to be issued a summons and fined, and also told the NY Times, “I’m a fan of the governor — I voted for him for senator, for governor and I’d vote for him again today. But I don’t think it’s healthy for society for people to think that someone in power is treated differently than other people. I think if the governor were in his full faculties, wasn’t in rehabilitation and on medication, he’d ask for them to write him the ticket and just move on.”

Ah, a New Jerseyite in track pants.

Live the stereotype, Jonny C, and the stereotype lives on!

spndp: it's not like he's doing anything even semi-official; he's in the hospital recovering (yes, from injuries sustained because of an excessively dumb decision). give the hate a break.

I'm shocked at how well he looks.

I would bet he is in tremendous pain, and just endured it for the sake of the photo opp to try and represent himself in good spirits. The guy is lucky to be alive. If the car was really doing 91, and he was not wearing his seatbelt, he is in a very small minority of people who are still in one piece after a crash like that.

What amazes me the most, aside from how well he looks, is the way every hospital room seems to look the same. Unfortunately, I've been doing a lot of visiting in hospital rooms lately and they all look like that (though, for some reason, I'm sure he doesn't have a roommate, and does have as much space as possible) - the same furniture, same fixtures, same horrible lighting. Get well (and wear your freakin seat belt).

Like okki, I'm shocked at how well he looks but I also think that #4 is right. That was just a photo opp and the guy has to be in tremendous pain.

I once hurt my elbow while mountain biking (piece of gravel went to the bone) and the pain never stopped while I healed. They gave me some pain killers that essentially killed the pain by making sleep all the time. I think that the doctors feared that if I felt no pain I would stress and reinjure my arm, so they had me sleeping 16 hours a day.

I don't think that Corzine, with his broken leg, ribs and sternum can do anything but lay in bed or think clearly at all.

Gov. Corzine should be ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt and the state trooper should be for going 91 mph. Right is right.

So Unprofessional ! Tell the Governor to get a suit and tie for his photo ops !

Personally, I would've been rocking freestyle in a hospital issue gown. The track pants are just half-assed - you wanted to look decent but you couldn't be bothered to dress up. If he wants to get comfortable, then, fuck it, air that shit out.
