Cam'ron Is Sorry (And Still Not Snitching)

2007_04_arts_cam.jpgCam'ron snitched about the "no snitching" rule on 60 Minutes Sunday, and is now apologizing for his comments on the show. To explain the rule, he told Anderson Cooper that "If I knew the serial killer was living next door to me? I wouldn't call and tell anybody on him -- but I'd probably move. But I'm not going to call and be like, 'The serial killer's in 4E.'" A bit disconcerting.

TMZ is reporting that Cam'ron has issued a statement saying:

"Where I come from, once word gets out that you've cooperated with the police that only makes you a bigger target of criminal violence. That is a dark reality in so many neighborhoods like mine across America. I'm not saying it's right, but it's reality.

Looking back now, I can see how those comments could be viewed as offensive, especially to those who have suffered their own personal tragedies or to those who put their lives on the line to protect our citizens from crime. Please understand that I was expressing my own personal frustration at my own personal circumstances. I in no way was intending to be malicious or harmful. I apologize deeply for this error in judgment."

Seems like the apology came from someone in camp Cam'ron, and not from the rapper himself. Also makes it sound like the "no snitching" rule is still firmly in place.

That 'apology' is hardly impressive in terms of composition. Cam'ron, grow the fuck up and realize that you live in a civilized society.

user-pic

The "apology" is bullshit, the product of 5W Public Relations. Cam'ron himself probably didn't even have someone read it to him.

You remember 5WPR, right? The one owned by Ronn (sic) Torossian.

user-pic

Yeah Ronn (sic) Torossian is pretty gross. Went to college with that guy and he skeeved me out even then.

But Cam, jeez, if a serial killer was living next to you, wouldn't it be your job to go over there and take him out yourself? I mean, isn't that the character *every* male hip-hop artist plays in *every* crappy action movie? Shit, life imitating art Cam, be hard!

user-pic

this is pretty simple.. you see, when people have, at best, an eigth grade education, they baheve like this guy

user-pic

And where i come from, people like Cameron Giles are locked up for not cooperating with the police... he'd be right at home, according to his own statement, "where i come from"

user-pic

If PR firms expect us to really believe homies are issuing these statements, they might want to throw in a couple of nome sanes and aights in there.

All this is is some sort of ersatz omertà by a bunch of punks who think because they can yell to a beat which is usually stolen, I mean sampled, from something else think they are some sort of nouvelle non-Italian Maffia.

If enough people cooperate with the police, so many neighborhoods like his would be better places. Stupid!

It's easy to blame the public faces of inner-city neighborhoods for a code of ethics that stems from much deeper problems in our society. There are two sides to this inherent distrust, and the "no-snitch" policy is a simple coping mechanism for a group of people who have been systematically undermined by this country for the length of its existence.

it seems this website is populated by snitches. remind me never to commit cyber-jaywalking in these circles.

user-pic

hey cam'ron nice "down low" jacket b!

that is what the no snitching rule is rilly about.

user-pic

camron misses the point of the whole no-snitch concept. to fully grasp the idea, one needs a firm sense of ethics and the ability to decide when and when not to report something. in the case that reporting something will prevent harm, save lives etc it might be appropriate to 'snitch.' in the case that someone is pressured with the offer of a plea bargain, or that the case involves a victimless crime, it is probably not appropriate to snitch. essentially the idea of 'no-snitching' requires some sense of ethics. camrons example of a serial killer entirely blows the issue out of proportion and ruins its credibility.

Finally ! One the "Gothamist" Posters is on the right track towards understanding the "Snitch rule" ! You got it the concept of explaining what Cam'ron did as appose to conscew the definition of the term in question "amahon" !

user-pic

Excellent! Now I know to move into a black neighborhood to continue my deadly hobby.

Wow, I was like totally thinking about some other things at the time I posted that last comment .
