I love the fact that the Mets are viewed as the "Ugly Stepchild" of New York . It's a boon in my mind, So keep up the good work in ignoring the better team here . I'll just keep on plugging along winning game after game .

Well, if you know Oscar Azocar, then you're not a 96-come-lately (also known as Shea transplants, but I digress). How about Celerino Sanchez? Jerry Kenney? Torey Lovullo? When you've sat there and watched these guys play third over the years, you can find it in your pinstriped heart to cut Alex Rodriguez a break.

And, like most *real* fans, I don't boo the home team. Never have. Went to the first game in '71, in the old Stadium, and never have. It just seems counter-productive, and, well, stupid. Sure, he was dissapointing and sure he choked in big spots and it pissed me off. But let me ask you this... you think you're helping?

He makes money, a lot of it. So what. Good for him. He found a guy who could cut him a deal and another guy willing to hand over the coin. I've learned not to worry about other people's paychecks, I have enough trouble keeping track of my own.

And do you really think that your ticket prices would be five cents cheaper if Rodriguez wasn't on the payroll? Now who's dead wrong?

Tim, if you think that 96-come latelies (actually, I think the term you're looking for is "Johnny come 96'ers") are the only ones booing A-Rod, you're crazy. If you were a real Yankee fan, you would have SEEN with your own two eyes that he DID NOT come through when the chips were down, starting with Game 5 against Boston in '04. He was great before that, just not since, but then again, neither was Mastsui or Sheffield. And Torre has been awful too. In the name of Oscar Azocar, don't even try and say that ARod has lived up to what he could do for the team.

You are just so dead wrong if you think fans were wrong to boo him last year. And if he starts to suck for long periods this year, we'll boo him again. And he better do it in the postseason. He doesn't get a free pass for an amazing April, just enjoy it for what it is.

BTW, it's an idotic statment (especially for a journalist)to say "On the positive side, Alex Rodriguez has erased any doubts about his ability to perform in New York."

Really? I guess you have a time machine set for Fall of '07. Let me know how it goes & I'll put down a thousand righht now.

Well said, Peter. As a thirty-something year Yankee fan, it's nice to see the 96-come-latelies finally appreciating this guy.

Here's the thing with the Yanks: in the last five games they've scored 8, 6, 5, 6, and 8 runs... and lost four of them. You score 33 runs in five games, you should win, like, four of them, unless you give up 6, 7, 7, 7, and 10 respectively.

As as much as I hope he is, somehow I don't think Phil Hughes is the answer.

"If you boo this guy at all this year, you are not a fan." ?!??

What a crock. Fans have every right in the world to boo Mr. April when he inevitably sh*ts the bed when it really counts.

New York should enjoy it while it lasts. Because the smart money says this could be it for A-Rod in New York, he'll be leaving after this year for L.A.

So which team won last night? Oh yes, the first place Mets. Thanks for the unbias reporting, Gothamist.
