Last Night's Action: Yanks Swept in Boston

2007_04_ssoxsweep.jpg

  • Red Sox 7, Yankees 6: This outcome shouldn't be all that surprising. Over the last two games of the series, the Yankees sent two Triple-A pitchers and a lineup without three regulars and still hung tough with the Red Sox, who sent two aces and their full lineups. Daisuke Matsuzaka didn't look all that great -- just like Josh Beckett and Curt Schilling before him -- but the Yankees have gotten nothing out of their rotation past Andy Pettitte. Chien-Ming Wang makes his return this week, but the Yankees will want to play better when these two teams meet again in the Bronx this weekend.

  • Braves 9, Mets 6: That home run Braves second baseman Kelly Johnson hit on the first pitch of the game wasn't a good sign. He hit a more important three-run homer in the eighth inning, and the Mets lost two of three at home to the Braves. Tom Glavine didn't have his best stuff, but the struggles of the Mets bullpen should provide more concern. New York's now lost four of six games to the Braves this season.

  • Devils 3, Lightning 2: Martin Brodeur may have stepped up his play, but the improvement of the Devils' defense made the biggest difference. Brodeur went eight minutes at one point without having to make a save. On offense, Brian Gionta had two goals, and Patrick Elias had an assist on all three scores. New Jersey's win mean it draws Ottawa next, and the Rangers will face the Sabres.

Apparently they're just going to have Pettitte throw every day.

Baseball 2007- New York City is starting to see the highs and lows,

Highs - Arod is hot, but the Yankees starting rotation and bullpen are struggling.

Lows - Atlanta Braves are making it clear that they will contend for the national east titie. Did we expect this???

Hola David Wright and Carlos Delgado combined have zero "0" homeruns and "14 RBIs" in 14 games.

Did we expect this? Well it's sort of good / ba neews. Just wait and see when their bats kick in.

i saw boston hit four homeruins in a row, shut my tv off and went outside to shoot film. gah!

I love New York, but I hate the SKANKEES.

My Boston Boys turned your guys over their knee and SPANKED HARD.

I'm going to hand out cigars at work today. I haven't felt this good since 2004.

Enjoy those smokes. After all, April traditionally is the Sox time of year.

See you next weekend.

The Sox may yet choke but don't expect the Yankees to get out of the Division Series with their pitching. It's going to take a lot more than Pettite and Clemens coming out of retirement.

Chase Wright came up from Double-A, not Triple-A.
