A horrible story is unfolding: A 5-year-old girl was found strangled with a jump rope and hanging from the closet door. The girl, Monigue Fulgham, was found by her grandmother in their Eastchester apartment around 5 or 6PM yesterday.
A godmother told the NY Post, "She was playing with a rope and it was tied around her neck," but the police are investigating the matter further: The Daily News reports that the child was also raped (the Post mentions that the police want to know if she was sexually abused.
Further, the mother and grandmother, who were both in the apartment during the time of the attack, are still being questioned "because of inconsistencies in their statements about who had access to their apartment." Monique's siblings, cousins and aunt also lived in the apartment which is located near an elevator. The Post says that the police are trying to determine whether the death should be classified as an accident or homicide, but an investigator told the News, "This is really one grisly murder."

I dreamt last night that I was reading Gothamist before they resorted to posting every sensationalist news blip.
This is terrible news. Without sounding too cold, I have to say sensationalism is taking over all of our information sources. News, blogs, whatever. It's an electronic form of rubbernecking. It's causing us all to be sheep.
CNN has it really bad (ie: CNN literally has, right now and I kid you not, a TOP story called "Missing child's remains found in shot crocodile")
Just because it is bizarre means it isn't fit for news?
Sigh. I assume you were glued to the TV following the Anna Nicole Smith developments, weren't you? If you can't tell what's sensationalist, then I have no help for you.
A grizzly CHILD murder is news, like it or not. "News" and "sensationalism" aren't mutually exclusive.
I have a 5 year old Niece and if this happened to her I don't know what I would do. I hope whoever did this dies a slow painful death. I hope when they find out who raped this child this person is put in put in Gen Pop in prison and tortured for the rest of their days. Said person is an animal and should be treated as such.
I think I will go to Law School, work for the D.A. then become a Judge. As soon as I finish paying off my debt I am going to quit my current job and go to Law School full time.

how horrible. i have 3 nephews ages 5,5 and 1. God Forbid anything ever happened to them. This is heart wrenching and disgusting at the same time. It's really scary when a human being is capable of barbaric and sadistic behavior and thoughts acted out on innocent lives. RIP AND GOD BLESS THIS LITTLE ANGEL.
