Obama Tries His Charm at the Sharpton Primary

Senator Barack Obama made his appearance at the Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network Conference yesterday. The conference, which is also known as the Sharpton primary, featured many Democratic presidential candidates, including Senator Hillary Clinton on Friday. But yesterday's speech from Clinton rival Senator Barack Obama was especially notable, given the earlier talk that Sharpton wasn't a big fan of Obama. Obama worked to woo the crowd, even joking, when Sharpton's Blackberry buzzed on the podium, "There's something humming down here. Is that Hillary calling?" Obama announced he supported Sharpton's efforts to go after negative language in the hip-hop industry, Obama thinks more should be done. From the NY Times:

"Let's not just single out the rappers...I’ve heard those words around the kitchen tables,” Mr. Obama said, speaking to members of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s group, the National Action Network at its ninth convention. “All of us have been complicit in diminishing ourselves, and engaging in the kind of self hatred that keeps our young men and young women down. That’s something we have to talk about in this election.”
Sharpton announced plans to buy stock in corporations who own record labels and go to shareholder meetings to complain about language on rap albums.

However, Obama was less warmly received than Clinton. The AP also reports that Obama erred by calling the group "Urban Action Network" a few times, but that he also "also assured the largely black audience he did not believe he was automatically entitled to their support."

i saw this and it made me sick. First, these guys pandering to sharpton who does not represent the community and second the way obama suddenly turned on an urban accent and tried to get folksy. does he take us for fools?

Whatever one may think about the Democrats' policies on any other issue, the pandering to a slime ball like Sharpton shows that, on race relations, they just don't care enough to be serious.

As opposed to the Republican party, whose leader Bush basically ignored New Orleans because its poor and black? Not only does Bush not care about black people, conservatives don't either.

Uh....uh huh! Yup yup yup, whitey hates blackey. It's as simple as that. That's the entire equation. Idiot.

That is an unfortunate photo of Obama (who is a pretty awesome man). I've said it before and I'll say it right now:

Barack the Vote.

What is so great about Barack Obama? What has he done that makes him so wonderful, is it just that he's not George Bush or Hilary Clinton? Is that it? I mean the guy isn't even a proper African-American?! Let alone an accomplished statesman.

Its cuz he speaks with a certain candidness thats refreshing, and he had a big speech on the national stage at the democratic convention in 04 that really resounded with people. but i agree, he is a junior senator, and unproven. i think he's great, but i have concerns about him as a resilient presidential candidate. "a proper african american?" whats that about? because he's lighter skinned and talks "white"? hm. but i have to say : i go for barack over hillary clinton, any day. please no hillary! actually Dennis Kucinich is my man. check him out.

Barack is right again.

That picture with Sharpton, Burn it and stay the hell away from him ! If Obama wants to make it too the end of the race he'll heed the warning . Sharpton's more trouble then he's worth !

That's a photo of Obama losing a lot of white votes, including mine. There's no excuse for any politician, black or white, to pander to scum like Sharpton.

Bad move, Barack kissing to Sharpton! Obama can forget the White House now! May be Al give him a job as shit cleaner in his outhouse.
