Of Montreal Are Clearly Interested In Having A Good Time
Yes, when they played their own set on Saturday night at Studio B, Of Montreal pretty much ran through the same shtick they did a month earlier at Irving Plaza. Nothing wrong with that, however, as that set was just about the best show we've been to all year and we were more than happy to re-experience it. But this show, was not entirely about Of Montreal. It was about the fans. In particular, the fans with the BAC to get up on stage and sing karaoke standards with Kevin Barnes and friends playing backup. And believe it or not, It was an almost entirely enjoyable experience. Fluxblog has a nice write-up and links to YouTube videos of most renditions. (Recommended: Aquaman and The Rudd/Wain Experience.)
If you're curious what makes Of Montreal so good live, watch the Cliff Notes rendition that they performed on Conan last week at the newly redesigned PSNYC.
Ghostland's All Grown Up
The former Movable Hypers (and interviewees) were back this week playing their largest NYC show yet at sold-out Bowery Ballroom and they did not disappoint. With the bigger room comes bigger stage antics, and on this trip the duo brought with them a dazzling super-clubesque laser light show and a some fancy costumes. Thomas, the usually dapperly-dressed electro-mad scientist behind all the drums, knobs and keyboards was wearing a cape! How fun. Of course the band never, ever fails at creating an over the top, raucous dance party - regardless of lighting or dress. Check out some great pictures and a review of the show at Shelves of Vinyl.
This just in, catch them at Misshapes tomorrow night!
"I SHOT Someone, Sum!"
It's only been two years since Marissa Cooper shot Trey Atwood to save Ryan's life during the Season 2 finale of the OC, yet it feels like a generation ago. In those two years, the featured song by Imogen Heap went from a kind of awesome indie breakthrough gem to a still kind of awesome (if not a bit overplayed) AAA Radio staple. In other words, just ripe for a SNL Digital Short spoof (even if the subject matter is amusingly dated). Now rather than evoking memories of the golden age of the OC whenever hearing this song, we'll recall this ridiculous clip:
(Thanks Heart on a Stick for the initial heads up and The Modern Age for the still viewable video clip)

I can just imagine Cho Sang-Hui watching that video last week and getting inspired. Come to think of it, Imagine Cho Sang-Hui shooting all those people and Imogen Heap playing in the background. Damn, how's that for funny?
