Dad in Hot Water Over Hot Pepper Torture

2007_04_yellowpepper.gifThere's a fine line between a parent reprimanding a child with punishment and assault. A Staten Island man was charged with assault and child endangerment after he admitted to rubbing a hot yellow pepper on his 11- and 8-year-old sons' naked bodies - including their genitals, including their faces.

Why hot yellow peppers? The Staten Island Advance reports that the father, Ganganue Gonesh, explained to the police, "I use pepper to rub on their body because this is how we are disciplined in our country [Liberia], in Africa." Why was he punishing the kids? Because the police brought them home "for skipping school and allegedly boosting video games." A neighbor called the police after finding one son naked in the hallway of their Park Hill apartment building.

The sons were treated at a hospital for burning. Gonseh was released, and the Post reports that he teaches the Bible at his church and was chosen "father of the year" by the church. And the Advance writes, "There have been a few cases of child-care centers sanctioned for the practice, but it is unclear if any parents have ever been charged or convicted of a crime for 'hot-saucing' their children." Lisa Whelchel, aka Blair from The Facts of Life, is a hot-saucing proponent.

Wow !! I was really heated when I typed that comment ! I stand by every word of it though . Parents stop letting your kids run the show and start whupping that ass ! If they call the Police on you for whupping them, then you tell them to raise your kids for you and see how well they do ! If they decide to take them away then you have more money in your pocket ! I know it seems cruel and all, But that's the attitude you have to take . Remember it's your house and not there's you set the rules for them too follow not the other way around !

To: #[11] So fucking what !!!! That's the problem with all you weak-ass parents today . Your afraid of your kids and they know it . This man came home from a hard day at work and found out that his kid was cutting school, and worst off was stealing ! The point of the punishment or any punishment is to create an example for the child . So that they have something in their head that they can use as a "Resource" in deciding whether or not to do something stupid ! All that "Time out" shit doesn't work ! Once a kid realizes that the extent of your punishment they might start prioritizing their crimes and decide a week or two on punishment is worth the crime committed . That leads to an " I can do whatever the fuck I want to and get away with it " ! Maybe by burning his kids they will think twice about cutting school, and stealing shit ! Whup that ass more often !!!!!

Mihow, too bad, the term is fimly implanted in our lexicon. You've got a lot of posting to do if that's your agenda.

I'm pretty familiar with the bill, thanks. I don't think a woman's right to be inconvenienced by giving birth to a child she doesn't want makes it OK to kill a baby which is fully capable of surviving given our current medical technology.

  • Hey Cynthia, why don't you actually read up on the term "Partial Birth Abortion" before making any snide comments and compare this abusive act to a woman's right to choose. It's a bogus term. If you read the entire bill, the term can include any type of vaginal abortion. Or maybe you're just against giving the right to a woman period. If so, say so. Don't continue throwing around terms our government made up specifically to whittle away at a woman's right to choose.

Autism is caused by lack of discipline. Good argument, #10.

plus, what was the kid doing naked outside the apartment? Was that part of the punishment?

  • sw

I'm not against corporal punishment, but come on guys, he rubbed pepper on the boys genitals and the burns were bad enough the kids had to go to the hospital.

When your kids end up in the hospital because of what you do to them, yes, I think the state should get involved.

  • Ed Wood

Were there ever any student shootings before the states stopped letting parents discipline their children?

I know kids were armed back then. My father used to be part of a shooting club in High School, and he carried a loaded rifle to school, and locked it in his locker.

There wasnt so many cases of autism, or childhood obesity back then either. When you refrain from disciplining your child, what results is a self centered, lazy, unruly monster.

    Either a Cho Seung-Hui... or a hipster.

I see, It burns the skin . Wow, I'm glad my pops gave me the belt when I was a kid !

  • Still Not Amused

What does rubbing Yellow peppers on skin do anyway ? If they were skipping school and stealing then I think the police should do what they used to do back in the days and let the Parent discipline their kids ! He should have whupped that ass !

Lisa Whelchel is also a big ol' Christian freak. What is it with these Bible-thumpers and their barbaric discipline? What would Jesus do, indeed!

I'll bet the partial birth advocates would be ok with this.

I think the best course of action is to just not have kids.
