I think the point here is that we have someone who routinely refused to wear his seatbelt. No one "deserves" to be injured and I'm NOT saying that (and personally I don't have an opinion on the $$-costs aspect), but I do hope this story will lower the number of people who do something as idiotic as saying "I don't wear seatbelts."

Bofug, I certainly hope that you never need medical attention for injuries suffered in an accident that might be due to your own fault. Get drunk and fall down stairs, cut yourself with a kitchen knife, etc. Or are you one to sue the bartender or knife manufacturer instead of taking responsibility?
Sorry to say this to you, but that's what medical insurance, as part of his state benefits, are for, whether or not his behavior was reckless. And why should the trooper be covered if Corzine isn't? (I think they both should be, that's why insurance exists)

A law enforcement official with knowledge of the security detail said Corzine's driver likely drove slightly faster than the traffic flow to keep another vehicle from riding alongside the governor, posing a possible security breach.

"You always assume the worst risk," said the official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the accident or the investigation.

Perhaps now, this will be modified to 'weigh the worst risk.'

Let's see.
Millionaire governor critically injured in 91 MPH crash, no reason for flashing lights, no seat restraint.
I hope the cost for his care is not coming out of Comp, No-Fault or Govt benefits.
NOT dissing the trooper (he should be covered).
Just any idiot in that situation should be responsible for his own costs at market rates.
Docs & hospital should be paid (from HIS funds) full market rate for his care, and HE should pick up the tab for his staff.
Think he's gonna file for a NJ State disablity pension based on injuries sustained in the "commision of his duties" (i.e., being in a rush to get to the Imus get-together)?

The newsfeed that drives the Gothamist Newsmap just says "Hanging" and then specifies 850 Park Ave. and the time 1:47 p.m., so I imagine it was a hanging (suicide) that occurred at that address. 850 Park is on the corner of East 77th St.
