Exhibits A-C: Brooklyn Law Student Bares All

2007_04_dominiguez.jpgStudying for the LSATs is nothing compared to stripping down for Playboy TV! The Daily News reports that Adriana Dominguez is getting a lot of attention for a naked romp that is circulating on the Internet. Dominiguez posed for Playboy TV's "Naked Happy Girls" - episode, "Rock Star and the Lawyer" (here's a link - definitely NSFW) - where she gets spanked and poses with gavels among other things. Though the show aired in January, a clip has been forwarded to law schools and law firms in the past month.

The Daily News tracked down Dominiguez, who e-mailed, "I did not expect it to become so widespread. I do not know how it was leaked." She originally told the photographer, "I wanted to do something a little crazy before I graduate and do become a lawyer ... do something kind of out of character." And the photographer, Andrew Einhorn, told the News, "When we shot, she knew what might happen down the road if these pictures might get shown to people in her field. But she had this self-confidence to not let that bother her. I don't think that she felt that this would be negative in any way to her career."

However, a spokesperson for the NY State Bar's Committee on Character and Fitness says, "It may have an effect. It's a possibility in the worst-case scenario that the person does not get admitted." And what did Brooklyn Law have to say about Dominiguez, a third-year student who graduated from U.Penn, interned at the Brooklyn DA's office, and was treasurer for Brooklyn Law's Legal Association of Activist Women? "We don't want this to ruin the career of a young lawyer."

Dominguez's Playboy TV photographs are after the jump. But warning: if you work at a white shoe law firm, the time you spend staring at these SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED BILLABLE HOURS.

I can't see any reason not to admit her to the bar -- being naked onscreen is just not a question of ethics. However, it is pretty trashy and not at all art. So it at least indicates bad taste and at least questionable judgment.

Even if it were something artistic, I personally would not be inclined to hire her if I were a law firm.

On the other hand, I might want to hire her if I were a client. She may in fact be the perfect lawyer for certain types of clients. Say, first amendment work for Larry Flint?

  • MrHappyface

OK, I wanna know now, who was the jackass that had to send the pics/vids to the NY State Bar Committee? Did he think that all this commotion would be funny or what?

  • Goats

I applaud her bravery. I enjoy the video! I am also licensed to practice law in NY and NJ. IF they deny her admission to the bar based on this, I can assure you the ACLU will go batshit. This would be a clear

unconstitutional limit on the First am./freedom of speech.

This 'scandal' couldn't possibly hurt the reputation of a school that claims Geraldo Rivera to be it's finest alumnus.

  • Reputation?

The reputation of a law school only matters to those who are unable to achieve the highest levels of academic proficiency in the classroom. As such, to those of you who are complaining about the value of your degrees at BLS, perhaps you should have tried working a little harder that first year and spent less time IMing your buddies and playing Text Twist in class rather than hitting the books.

Further, explaining away situations is an essential tool in an attorney's arsenal. Perhaps you should consider figuring out how to do that should you make an interview, rather than bitch about the actions of one individual.

Lastly, I'd bang her. Hard. Especially from behind. That should qualify as a compliment, as no self-respecting woman would pose for this kind of stuff unless she wanted people to desire or comment about her. So, kudos, Adriana, you've helped disprove my theory that all girls in law school are heartless bitches with a chip on their shoulder because their mom ran into a glass ceiling 30 years ago. I'd hire you as my attorney any day, even if you wouldn't sleep with me.

  • insider

Gunot, you moron, BLS is a solid 2nd tier school. We recruit there actively and have many BLS grads as partners. You sound to me like a tier 4 reject, or perhaps a bar exam failure.

  • gunot

Hey BLS3L: You're degree is worthless anyway. Maybe this will help bring BLS to third tier by getting you some name recognition.

You know; if I was guilty, I would enjoy having a lawyer who looked like her. Bad face? No, but not outstanding and also decent body, especially for someone not preparing for this type of thing. Also, remember much of what you see in the skin mags is airbrushed and photoshopped. This appears not to be altered in any way. I didn't see what her breats looked like or whether she shaves down there or not and that would be titillating, but what the heck.

I wouldn't throw her out of bed for eating crackers.

Besides, she appears to be a party animal and she probably be up for almost anything.

    Advice for the ladies:

Nine out of 10 times, it's a bad idea to take off your clothes for a guy with a camera.

  • Floyd

Well she did say she likes to be spanked. She's just getting a little spanking from the media. And she'll continue to be seen, whether you agree with it or not, as a piece of ass. This video will be circulating around every office that gets her resume. And while the boys might defend her right to bare it all or say it's a shame that she was so naive to show her awkward jumping skills when their female colleagues are around, when it's all guys, they'll be talking about other things.

I don't think I'll save the newspaper, but I might covert the video file so I can be the first to pass it around the office.

The Chinese say that by age 20 you have the face and reputation you have earned. This young girls face tells me she's a loser and her revealing all simply confirms my 1st hunch was correct.

  • New Jersey Grouch

Jeez. You'd think she actually did something interesting. Moderately attractive gurl gets naked and has someone take video, saying silly shit in the audio track.

_This_ is something the Bar will be upset about? They need to get out to the corner video store. This is... tame and boring. Don't lawyers have better imaginations than this?

  • blah blah

Furthermore, I applaud the DN for doing that because it acts as an effective deterrent for other intelligent, attractive women who might contemplate doing something so stupid in the future.

i'm not so appreciative of DN anymore.

  • go daily news

1elle: I went looking for hard copies of the Daily News yesterday at 6pm (I plan to show this to my children one day as an example of what acting like an asshole can get you) and it was sold out at the first three newstands I tried. The Post, NYT and WSJ were not sold out. Now you have your reason why the Daily News plastered her face on the cover.

Furthermore, I applaud the DN for doing that because it acts as an effective deterrent for other intelligent, attractive women who might contemplate doing something so stupid in the future.

  • 1elle

Oh, please, what has this done to the reputation of BLS? It hasn't even sullied the reputation of the other 3L in the video. The only person whose life this will affect is Ms. Dominguez. And while it was obviously an exercise of terrible judgment, there was absolutely no reason for the Daily News to put an 8x10 of her face on the cover and associate the video (for the first time on any legitimate website) with her name.

  • DrewsisBLS

She was much cuter as a 1L... ohh and her boyfriend is one of the biggest tools i've encountered at BLS

  • bls3l

Justin, here is a little perspective for you: Ms. Dominguez's actions have impugned the reputation of the entire school. A reputation which my 100K worth of student debt is attached to. You speak of functioning drug addicts and such: do they parade their foibles on the national news? When she made her failings public and attached them to BLS she made them my problem. Her extreme lack of judgment has effected me. Your friendship clouds your common sense. I have no such allegiance. Her name was not sullied by the daily news, it was sullied by her actions. She is reaping what she has sown.

    Two things:

    1) Can this compassion you speak of pay my student debt?

    2) If you are in the legal field you understand the value of reputation. If not, you are unqualified to judge the accuracy of my statement.

  • Vanessa

    Justin,

Good for you for standing up for her.

It's very sad and completely disgusting that they didn't feel it was necessary to print the male student's name. I think it's fair to say that this is news, only because the student who disrobed for the cameras happened to be a woman.

I personally don't care if a male or female law student decides to model for Playboy. Why is this news???

Adriana, if you're out there, keep your chin up. These posters (likely a middle school students up pasyt their bedtimes) are narrow-minded and cruel.

Good luck in life and in your career.

    Vanessa

p.s. Jake, can you offer some female friendly options in your polls? See, I certainly think that Adriana should be admitted to the bar (yet I have no idea why my opinion or any other persons opinion on this site should matter) but I'm not exactly for "T&A in the courtrooms." You're married to a woman, right???...

  • Justin

Wow, what sharp powers of deduction and analysis you folks possess. With canny assessments like that, nothing will stand in your way. This might be lost on you but I'm a friend of hers who doesn't even live anywhere near the city anymore, but thanks for playing. If I want to defend her, it's my prerogative.

The engineering comparison seems to come out of left field, but I find the words "your reputation is what determines your place in the legal food chain" to be not entirely accurate. But assuming for the moment it is, let's examine that---are we talking about legal prowess or character? Because I can point to dozens of lawyers who are functioning drug addicts, alcoholics, DSM entries, etc. But they always turn their stuff in on time, and it is effective. And not a cross word about their vagaries is offered---but we should chop this "trollop's" head off? If this coming to light was a natural progression due to her own efforts, I suppose that's one thing---but that's almost beside the point.

Every action has a reaction. And legal analysis demands a bloodless, empirical gaze sometimes. But, to put it inartfully: C'mon, now. Where's the sense of restraint and compassion? Doesn't your judgement tell you that, while it's a logical outcome to have her involvement publicized, the insulting invective spewed throughout the comments is inappropriate? Doesn't your judgement tell you that the release of her full name is troubling, and might have troubling consequences, that just because it's news still doesn't make it right? Perhaps she brought this on herself, perhaps she didn't. But even if she did, you don't leave the analysis at "Well, she was asking for it" and then help pile it on when someone expresses regret for her. It's one thing to argue a case, it's another to live in the real world--where people make mistakes and it sucks for them, and where most people don't go and make it worse by being insulting and needlessly cruel and smugly justifying it--because everyone's brought the house down on themselves at one point. Have some perspective.
