Tomorrow night, Brooklyn's Community Board 6 will discuss the future of 9th Street between Third Avenue and Prospect Park West for a while. The Department of Transportation has proposed a plan that would improve pedestrian safety and create bike lanes along 9th Street; you can see the plan here. Streetsblog says it's "a great plan" "from a Livable Streets perspective," but notes opposition from residents who are worried they won't be able to double park their cars.
Transportation Alternatives has an e-fax website where you can send your support of the plan to CB6. And we found this graphic from the DOT's proposal fascinating. We wish this information were available for more locations.

Jen you seem to be on a crusade. Taffic is your obsession
meant to say traffic, although I would not like to preclude a taffic obsession, but the topic at hand is traffic
I'm serious about traffic- when people ask me why I like NYC so much, one of the first things I say is that you can walk around in so many neighborhood or travel to them via mass transit. I like the city being accessible by means other than cars also because I haven't driven more than 10 miles in 6 years.
Back to the central topic here . People in general are stupid when it comes to innovation . Ninth Street has been turned into a veritable speedway by arrogant drivers . I used too ride my bike over there a few years ago and noticed the traffic along that stretch had become precariously dangerous . What needs to happen is the DOT has to change the light sequence between Third, & Seventh Avenues . That's where the bulk of the traffic comes from . As far as the bike lanes, That's pointless drivers will find a way to navigate their way around that . As far as widening the roadway, Pointless, That will just contribute to the double parking in the area . Start enforcing the traffic laws currently in place .
