I love how employees were instructed not to charge customers who saw rodents for their food orders. "Uh, I saw a rat shit in my gordita." "Well, that will be on the house then, sir!"Reminds me of when I saw a millipede crawling through the guacamole at a Chipotle. They replaced the guac bucket and--wait--comped me for the guacamole! They should have given me a gift card for 10 free burritos, elsewhere. My reaction was entirely too calm, in retrospect.

The Dept. of Health in New york for years has wished it could have some other kind of job. They sent smokers into the streets creating public disorder at all times of the day and night; next they sought to regulate how restaurants cooked their food. But making sure that New York is healthy and vermin-free, I guess that's too trivial for today's DOH. Restaurants do whatever they want to here. It's a part of the "Miracle" of a tourist economy.

Shouldn't the corporations that are running these places be held responsible as well? If not by the government, then by the consumers? The managers/owners, etc. should have had enough personal integrity to ensure the safety of their customers and their employees, without having to be forced. This situation reflects not only the incompetents of our regulatory system, but also the current state of our corporate morality.
