Television Watching: Crazy Like a Fox and Kudos
Fox News Channel blowhard Bill O'Reilly and fellow Foxie Geraldo Rivera were in a heated argument on last night's edition of The O'Reilly Factor. The tiff was about a drunk driving illegal alien in Virginia killing someone and devolved into yelling and actual finger pointing with Geraldo starting out by pointing out to Bill that he was wrong. Since we usually avoid cable "news" like the plague, we were tipped to this morning, saw a bit on Fox 5 Midday, and was given a YouTube link. We can only imagine what MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who is a foe of O'Reilly, is going to say on his show tonight.
Kudos to WNBC's Investigations Unit
We have really been impressed by Jonathan Dienst and WNBC's investigative team the past few weeks. Last week they broke the story of what and when Rudy Giuliani knew about Bernard Kerik's links to Interstate Industrial, a company with alleged mafia ties.
This week they broke the story of the aforementioned Interstate Industrial working on the new Yankee Stadium project, despite being banned from contracts in New York City and Atlantic City. We should mention that the stadium project is considered a private development, despite the millions of dollars of public funds going into it and WNBC noted that the contractor Turner Construction said, "Interstate is being paid only with the Yankees' private money."
No Love From 5 to 4
Fox 5 is running a promo that is an indirect attack at WNBC's News 4 You. The promo doesn't mention WNBC's 5:30 p.m. newscast by name but does offer up some subtle hints as to who the target is. Richard Huff in today's Daily News reminds us of the similarity to the WCBS promo from two years ago which had John Bolaris in a boxing ring with a Sam Champion doppelganger noting, "The management team at Ch. 2 at the time of the Champion spot now runs Ch. 5."
Quick Hits
Christine Ebersole from the Broadway musical Grey Gardens will be interviewed on a special edition of WNET’s New York Voices at 10 p.m. tonight.
NBC's New York City set and filmed comedy 30 Rock has been picked up for another season.

While I always hate to defend O'Reilly, isn't he right? Aren't illegal aliens that are arrestd for anything supposed to be deported.
The guy HAD A PREVIOUS DUI ARREST, that makes all the difference
Wow, someone who can make Geraldo look caring and insightful. That's quite an achievement for O'Reilly.
Does one's citizenship legally determine the likelihood of getting drunk and mowing someone down? NO. That's what the argument was about.
Yeah but the Virginia legal system failed those 2 dead girls, its not a reason to go vilifying all illegal immigrants. Drunk drivers come in all flavors congressman, Stienbrennars son-in law, rednecks, and illegal aliens too.
no, but a previous DUI arrest might, and that is why they are arguing
I hate Bill O'Reilly, As much as it pains me to say it . He does have a point ! That's it I have to go now . I suddenly feel really dirty and need to take a [2] hour shower to cleanse my soul .
Yeah, Bill is smug and self-righteous with a superiority complex that could fill a football stadium but he does have a point.
Last week a 24 year old guy in New Jersey was allegedly murdered by a Guatalmalen immigrant. He ran his own scrap metal business and got into a disagreement with this guy at a junkyard. So sad. I wonder what will happen in that case.
Also, I wonder if there is a double standard? If you are a legal immigrant applying for citizenship, say, waiting for a green card and you are involved in murder or manslaughter, what happens to you?
Stewart, in that case the person is totally sh*t out of luck. It's hard enough to go through the bureaucratic process of the application, but murder/manslaughter is most likely going to put the kaibash on the whole deal.
Plenty of drunk drivers out there, with the majority being perfectly legal citizens - congressmen, rich yuppies, cops, etc.
