I think new music needs more UK-US collaborations. Also, does it matter if the is totally original or derivative? Is music influenced by previous generations completely devoid of virtue? Some really great bands are completely derivative of other music (that I also like)- i.e. The Jam, LCD Soundsystem, et al.

It is funny or sad that people who say this can't be honest and just admit they're too lazy and/or tired to seek out good new music? I'll respect you more than if you arrogantly claim it simply doesn't exist. The consensus is based on what's usually found on major labels, popular radio, or MTV (and the like). However, you are right that there is good music out there, and it takes someone who is really interested to discover it.

As much fun as it is to hate the Post sometimes, I have a profound lowbrow appreciation for their headlines. Some mornings it's the only thing during my commute that will put a grin on my face. In any case it beats the Times's lame series of "human interest" and first person articles lately...as if I'm supposed to give two shits about affluent college girls and former-punk-now-married-to-investment-banker-and-spawning types. Aww, it's actually kind of adorable to see that "Keef" can spew ridiculous comments about new music on par with the most curmudgeonly of the boomer generation. What's next, doing blow off his khaki Dockers?

he actually didn't snort his dad, it was a joke to piss peope off, and it seems to have worked: mtv.com/news/articles/1556258/20070403/rolling_stones.jhtml i also agree with him that current "rock" music is 99.9% crap, it's all rehashed and striaght up stolen from the greats of the 60s and 70s (hendrix, beatles, stones, zep, etc.) if you actually listen to it (instead of just getting enthralled in how cool you think you are) you can hear how unoriginal it all is.
