MUSIC: Five O'Clock Heroes, The Octagon and Ford & Fitzroy play Mercury Lounge tonight. In an odd turn of events we're most excited for the opener, Ford & Fitzroy - who played our Movable Hype show in February (video here).

8pm // Mercury Lounge [Houston at Essex] // $10

2007_03_arts_nublu.pngThe Nublu Orchestra will be playing...Nublu tonight. A ton of jazz and electronic musicians creating crazy sounds in a tiny space probably isn't for everyone. But if you can handle it, we suggest you go. The orchestra is conducted by Butch Morris (pictured) and really focuses on "structured improvisation" more than anything.

10pm // Nublu [62 Ave C] // $5

THEATER: Get your gay noir on at Murder Uncensored, part of the Wings Theatre “Gay Plays” series. (The series presents new plays by American playwrights geared for a gay audience, but the West Village theater hastens to add that “straight folk are more than welcome too!”) Murder Uncensored is based on the unsolved murder of silent film director William Desmond Taylor – the slaying inspired Sunset Boulevard; the aging actress in the film is named Norma Desmond in reference to Taylor's middle name and one of his actress friends, Mabel Normand. In Murder Uncensored, Taylor’s secret lover George Hopkins hires Sam, a fictional down-and-out detective, to dig through Hollywood’s sordid laundry for leads. - John Del Signore

8pm // Wings Theatre [154 Christopher St] // Tickets cost $20
