Interesting . So that means they plan on spending more of my tax dollars on programs that they really have no interest in to start with ! (Read into my comment before you all have one of your shit attacks!) Well This is something that should have been done years ago, I guess getting started is better then not starting at all .

I love that stupid people think installing a bunch of MCAs (*MultiChannel Analyzers) and NaI (crappy resolution) or CadZincTel sensors (probably too $) attached to some basic PC's is going to somehow magically put a protective bubble around NYC. The reality of the situation is to make these things effective, you need to be not moving quickly (i.e. a toll both) and the best sensors (Germanium) have cooling needs and are too expensive, the CadZincTel sensors are expensive and the largest size they come in is like a square inch... the most feasible (NaI) detectors have poor resolution which means lots of false positives. Our best defense is good intelligence and vigilance on part of our citizens.

It's a good thing terrorists never use airplanes or they could go right over the "perimeter."

It's taken them 5 1/2 years to realize we need nuke radiation detectors around NYC? What the f***?
