THEATER: Athol Fugard, the acclaimed South African playwright whose apartheid-era plays pulsated with consciousness-raising outrage, considers himself ‘a miniaturist [who] writes on small canvases’. That's not false modesty; his autobiographical two-character play, Exits and Entrances, was written for a tiny 78-seat theater in Hollywood, where it premiered in 2004. It’s based on Fugard's relationship with stage actor André Huguenet, who was known at the time as the Olivier of South Africa. This is the play’s New York premiere; it fills the slot vacated by Terrence McNally’s Deuce, which (insert Corky St. Clair voice) is going to Broadway! - John Del Signore

MUSIC: The New Yorker says Spielerfrau is "a highly literate and slightly suave Brooklyn-based pop quintet, is the brainchild of the Russian musician and journalist Michael Idov (he moonlights as a staff writer for New York magazine). Idov's sophisticated and sometimes ironic lyrics take on everything from pheromones to Vladimir Putin's repressive presidency." Of course, we were let in on Idov's music when TMFTML posted a song last year.
