Last Night's Action: Adding Insult to Injury

  • Devils 3, Islanders 2: In a game that one team needed almost infinitely more than the other, the club with little to gain pulled out the victory. But that's not the worst news of the day for the Islanders -- goalie Rick DiPietro has postconcussion syndrome and is out indefinitely. Say what you want about his marathon contract, but DiPietro means plenty to the Islanders. They're two points behind the playoff cutoff with six games to play. And they're not the only team competing for the spot. Fingers crossed may not be enough at this point.

  • Canadiens 6, Rangers 4: Everything was going OK until the Rangers allowed five unanswered goals in the second period. The Rangers pulled Henrik Lundqvist, but their recent hot streak has left them in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and with a small margin of error.
