The Coupon Clipper scours the specials for the best deals in New York's big grocery stores.
Apparently a huge shipment of strawberries has just hit New York, as three of our favorite groceries are featuring them at discounted prices. So why not indulge?
The Met has them for $2.50 a pound, a fine deal, but one that’s equaled by Fairway’s 2 packs for $5. No, the winner of the strawberry showdown is Pathmark, which is selling the sweet berries for $1.50 a pound. But before you decide to go on a gluttonous strawberry rampage, remember you may only buy two packs at a time. That’s the rule.

What to do with them? We thought briefly about making a little reduction to spoon over ice cream. But that's too much work. We’ve also been known to chop them up and toss them with 4 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar. Let them all marry in the bowl for at least a half an hour, and serve up. But really, why worry so much? Simply sprinkle with a little powdered sugar and forget about forks altogether.
Any other ideas?

I bought some strawberries at the Met yesterday, and they were really delicious and sweet. I'm usually skeptical about the cartons of strawberries at grocery stores, but these were pretty great.
um how about wash them and eat them you unhealthy morons
plain.. but if you need an extra sweet tooth kick sprinkled brown sugar or dipping in condensed milk always worked for me. yum
FreshDirect had them for 1.99/ea - no limit - and they were the best I've had since August. Where's the FD love?
